Lot 2.  Set of 26 T9 1911 Turkey Red Cabinet Cards with Johnson PSA-Graded. Along with their T3 baseball cousins, these cards are among the most beautiful tobacco cards ever produced. This is a solid, attractive collector set, with most cards grading g+ or better and 10 grading vg or better. Individual card grades vary, primarily because of conditions in the simulated wood border. With few exceptions, the image area is free of significant problems, and the backs are clean. Six cards have a pin hole (ph) or tack hole (th); for these cards, we have noted the condition and provided a grade indicating the card’s appearance absent the hole. Lot 3.  1938 Cartledge “Famous Prize Fighters” Near Set of 42, Most Graded NM 7 or Better. High-grade NEAR set with 29 cards graded NM-MT or better. PSA graded one card MINT 9, #27, one MINT 9 (OC), #10, and one NM-MT+ 8.5, #31. Twenty-six are NM-MT 8: #1-8, 13, 14, 16 Mace, 17, 19 Doherty, 21, 23, 24 Fitzsimmons, 28 Armstrong, 32, 33, 37 Farrr, 38, 39, 42, 43, 45 and 49. NM+ 7.5 cards are #20 and 48. The NM 7 examples are #9 Molineaux, 19 Danahar, 25 Carpentier, 34, 35, 44, 47 and 50. Two cards received an EX-MT 6 designation, #36 and 46 Baer. The Cartledge set, with cards numbered 1-50, is actually complete at 52 cards. There are two boxers for #13 and #19. Both cards numbered 19 are in this collection, Doherty and Danahar. Missing are #11 Neat, 12 Ward, 13 Boone (Thompson is present), 15 Sayers, 18 Sullivan, 22 Corbett, 26 Dempsey, 29 Schmeling, 30 Louis and 41 Lynch. Lot 8.  Billy Papke (Middleweight Champ) Vintage Fountain Pen Autograph. In one of boxing’s bloodiest battles, Papke scored a TKO over the incumbent middleweight champion, Stanley Ketchel, on Labor Day, Sept. 7, 1908. Two month later, he lost the title to Ketchel in a rematch. Later, he held the French middleweight title. In 1936, at the age of 50, the “Illinois Thunderbolt” took his own life after killing his wife. He was named to the Boxing Hall of Fame in 2001. His signature is a bold 10 very suitable for matting and framing on a 4” x 8” section of paper. It was once part of a full typed letter. Accompanying the autograph is a 1909 postcard mailed from Atlantic City to Papke in Kewanee, IL. Both came from the Papke family estate. Very scarce signature. Authenticated by Kevin Keating.
