Lot 206. 59 Different Baseball Histories. Hardbacks unless otherwise noted. Many are coffee-table display books. Among the highlights are: All three volumes of David Q. Voigt’s 1966-76 series, American Baseball, volumes 1 and 2, and America Through Baseball; these are perfectly readable copies with water damage to the books and dust jackets. The 1991 edition of A. G. Spalding’s Base Ball: America’s National Game, 1839-1915, published by Halo Books, nm book and ex dust jacket. A G. Spalding and the Rise of Baseball, Peter Levine, 1985 first edition, ex-m/vg-ex. A Baseball Century: The First 100 Years of the National League, Jeanne McClow and others, two copies, the standard version with an ex-m book and dj and a special boxed edition with a special leather cover with gilt lettering, mint in the box. A Century of Baseball 1839-1939, A. H. Tarvin, 1938 softcover, vg+ to ex, tiny area of paper loss from a price sticker. National League Pitching 1876-1892, James E. Fredlund, circa 1991, self-published and photocopied. The National League and The American League, Joel Zoss and John S. Bowman, 1992, two nm-m volumes in an ex slipcase. That Old Ball Game (with rare photos), David R. Phillips, 1975, ex-m+/vg+. Professional Baseball: The First 100 Years, Don Smith, 1969 softcover, g. The Baseball Companion, Angus G. Garber III, 1990, vg+ to ex/vg+. Cooperstown to Dyersville, C. F. Springwood, 1996 first ed. paperback, vg+ to ex. The Sporting News Chronicle of Baseball, Ron Smith, 1993, ex-m/ex-m. Two editions of Robert Smith’s Baseball are present, the original first ed. from 1947, g, and a revised first printing from 1970, ex book and vg+ dj. Smith wrote also the Illustrated History of Baseball, 1973, ex-m/ex-m. Several books are by Donald Honig: The American League and The National League, both 1983 first editions plus the 1987 N.L. revised edition, and Baseball: The Illustrated History of American’s Game, 1990 first; these books average ex-m+ in ex dust jackets. With Lawrence Ritter, Honig wrote The Image of Their Greatness, 1992 softcover, revised first ed., ex. There are three editions of Joseph Reichler’s Baseball’s Great Moments, 1974, 1984 and 1987, which average ex/vg-ex. There also is a copy of the 75th Anniversary of the National League, p-f. Other hardbacks are by Lowell Reidenbaugh (pennant races), Larry Burke, David Nemec, Danny Peary, Tristram P. Coffin, Irving A. Leitner, John M. Rosenburg, Joseph Reichler, Paul Fichtenbaum, Lee Allen, G. Edward White, Thomas S. Owens, Ed Fitzgerald, Harvey Frommer, Dave Klein, John Helyar, Frederick G. Lieb, Douglass Wallop and Frank Graham, Jr. These books average ex in vg dust jackets; a few dust jackets are missing. Softcover are by Jules Tygiel, John Thorn, William A. Borst (signed), William Humber, Daniel Okrent, William B. Mead, Charles C. Alexander and Glenn Dickey; they average nm. Quality collection of excellent reading and research material. Proceeds from the sale of this lot will benefit the Society for American Baseball Research, a non-profit membership organization open to all that fosters the research, preservation, and dissemination of the history and record of baseball.
