Lot 273. 325+ Cards Including 4 Sets, Primarily 1920s-30s, Featuring British Royalty. These cards, all different, provide a lesson in the history of British monarchs and other royal figures. The sets, all in color with descriptive back, are: 1925 Carreras (Turf) “Regalia Series” of 25. These tobacco-sized cards picture and describe accouterments of the monarchy. Ex-m to nm overall. There also is a larger format (about 2 ½” x 3 1/8”) near set (19 of 20) of these cards. G. 1927 Churchman “The King’s Coronation” set of 15. The cards are about 2 ½” x 3 1/8”. Ex-m to ex-m+. 1937 Wix (Kensitas) “Coronation” set of 50. Ex to ex-m overall, and 1938 International Tobacco “Gentlemen, The King!” set of 100 (black backs). This impressive set focuses on King George V. It consists of cards in two sizes as issued, about 1 ½” x 2 ¼” and 2 ¼” x 3”. Nm-m overall. The other cards are associated with one monarch or another: King Edward VII (1901-10), 16 cards. Queen Alexandra, 8 cards. King George V (1910-36), 49 cards, including a partial set (22 of 50) of 1935 Wills “The Reign of King George V.” Queen Mary, 14 cards. King George VI (1936-52), 27 cards. Six cards show Princess Elizabeth (Queen Elizabeth II), Princess Margaret Rose or both. Various sets are represented, among them: 1924 Hignett’s “Prince of Wales Empire Tour.” Adkin 1935 Notabilities. Ardath 1935 “Silver Jubilee.” 1937 “Empire Personalities.” Carreras 1935 “Kings & Queens of England.” 1935 “Popular Personalities.” Churchman 1937 “The King’s Coronation.” Lambert & Butler 1928 “The Royal Family at Home and Abroad.” Mars Confections 1937 “Ceremonies of the Coronation.” Ogden’s, various issues showing Edward VII. Pattreiouex 1935 “Sights of London,” both series. Godfrey Phillips 1925 “Special Jubilee Year Series.” 1937 “Coronation of Their Majesties,” both sizes. Player 1935 “King & Queens of England,” both sizes. 1937 “Coronation Series – Ceremonial Dress.” Tournament Cigarettes 1937 “Coronation Souvenir.” Wills 1911 “The Coronation Series.” 1937 “Our King & Queen.” More than 90% of these cards are ex or better; many are ex-m or better. The remaining cards are vg-ex or less.
