Lot 221. Jackie Robinson in 3 Wire Photos, Roy Campanella in 1. In an original International New Service (INS) 7” x 9” wire photo, Ed Lopat avoids Robinson’s attempts to tag him in Game 4 of the 1949 World Series. Pee Wee Reese looks on. Vg photo that displays as ex from a distance and has the caption on the back, as do the three other photos. In another original INS 7” x 9” wire photo, Campanella is forced out at second in the 1954 All-Star game. Chico Carrasquel is also shown in this ex to ex-m photo that has creases in two corners. The two other wire photos were reissued upon Robinson’s death in 1972 at the age of only 53. One from 1948 shows him on sliding into home on the front end of a triple-steal against the Boston Braves. Brooklyn’s Billy Cox, Boston’s Bill Salkeld and umpire Jocko Conlan are in the 8” x 10” vg-ex photo, which has creases at the top outside the central image area. The final photo, 7” x 9”, has Robinson turning a double play as Del Ennis slides into second base. Ex-m with a couple of light surface creases.
