Lot 33. Franco Harris Signature on a “Franco’s Italian Army” Composite. The Sporting News and UPI selected Harris as the NFL’s Rookie of the Year in 1972. As he gained 1,055 yards in his first season, Harris became a favorite Pittsburgh’s Italian-American community. Harris’ mother was born in Italy, and his father is African-American. Soon, these Pittsburgh fans dubbed themselves “Franco’s Italian Army.” Harris helped the Steelers to win four Super Bowls during his Hall of Fame career. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1990. His signature is on an 11 ½” x 18” Italian flag that is matted and framed to 23” x 25” with an 8” x 10” black & white photo and a 3” “Franco’s Italian Army” logo patch. The signature is bold with some bleeding that causes it to grade ex-m 6 to nm 7. Authenticated by Kevin Keating.
