Lot 387. 8 Magazines Featuring Marilyn Monroe Covers, Pictorials or Both. Excellent collection of images picturing the actress, model and sex symbol. It includes the Autumn 1962 hardcover issues of Eros, which has 16 pages of Marilyn photos. Bert Stern took the photos six weeks before Monroe’s death. Cover wear, ex. Eros has pages the size of Life, which had Monroe covers on May 25, 1953 (vg, with Jane Russell promoting “Gentlemen Prefer Blondes”), April 20, 1959 (ex, four pages on “Some Like it Hot” inside), Nov. 9, 1959 (vg, cover wear, label removed), and Sept. 8, 1972 (vg+, three pages inside). The Life issues have mailing labels unless otherwise noted. Monroe appeared frequently on the cover of Modern Screen, including the Oct. 1955 issue, four pages of photos plus an article, vg-ex. Also: Marilyn Monroe: “her own story,” by George Carpozi Jr., 1973, magazine format, 112 pages of text and photos, ex. And the May 1953 issue of Eye, ex with crease in the upper right corner; Marilyn’s not on the cover, but she is the focus of six pages of “unpublished pictures” inside.
