Horse Racing Cards   4 Lots

Lot 223.  1888 N162 Goodwin Champions Card of HoF Jockey Isaac Murphy SGC-Graded. SGC graded the card 30 Good 2. An African-American who competed from 1871 until his death in 1896, Murphy was one of the top jockeys in U.S. racing history. He was the first jockey inducted into the U.S. Racing Hall of Fame. In 1891, he became the first rider to win the Kentucky Derby three times. Since 1995, the National Turf Writers Association has presented the Isaac Murphy Award to the jockey with the highest winning percentage for the year in North America. Murphy won 44% of his races, a success rate that has never been equaled. This is an attractive card with bold colors from a very desirable issue, and it presents beautifully.
