Lot 217. Basketball Grab Bag –Bird Portrait, Bucks, Celtics, Globetrotters Publications. An original 11 ½” x 16 ½” pastel drawing of Larry Bird by an artist identified only as Laura highlights this collection. Have Bird sign this one-of-a-kind item! It was given to “Mary & Gig, a Couple of ‘Bird’ Watchers.” Ex-m. Bird is on the cover of a 1980-81 Boston Celtics yearbook, nm+. Another highlight is the flyer and ticket order form promoting the 1952 “World Series of Basketball,” which pitted a College All-Star team against the Harlem Globetrotters. Playing in 15 different cities, from New York to Los Angeles, the Globetrotters won 11 of 16 games. Leroy Leslie of Notre Dame was the star of the series for the All-Stars, and Goose Tatum starred for the Globetrotters. Flyer is vg+ to ex and comes with the original mailing envelope from Chicago Stadium. Very scarce. Also: Sept. 29, 1972 program for a pre-season exhibition game, Chicago Bulls at Milwaukee.
