Signed Contract: Jurges, Ruel and Culler - Facsimile Signed Baseball Producer.
Lot 308. Signed Contract: Jurges, Ruel and Culler - Facsimile Signed Baseball Producer. This contract represents an interesting piece of baseball history. First, it is signed by three major leaguers: Richard B. Culler, infielder for the A’s, White Sox, Braves, Cubs and Giants, 1936 and 1943-49, died 1964. William F. Jurges, shortstop for the Cubs or Giants, 1931-47, died 1997. And H. D. (Muddy) Ruel, 18-season major league catcher, died 1963. Second, from a collector standpoint, it was Culler who, in 1948, established the Autographed Ball Company. He had developed a way to stamp facsimile signatures on baseballs, which were mass produced and sold at concession stands in major league ballparks. The company was still in business in 2004. In the 8 ½” x 7 ½” contract, Culler agrees to pay Jurges one cent for each team facsimile ball sold with Jurges’ name on it. The contract is dated 1948. The signatures are mint 9s and gem mint 10s. Authenticated by Kevin Keating.
Winning Bid $30.
