Lot 441. 115 Baseball Images Including Sporting News Premiums, Inquirer Inserts. This interesting collection comprises primarily photos of individual players from newspapers, magazines and team issues. A few team photos also are present. Buy it for the fun of it! Or buy it for the 1926 M101-7 Sporting News supplements of the league champion Yankees and Cardinals. Trimmed to about 8 ½” x 13” and adhered to scrapbook stock, they have a vg appearance. Or buy it for the 1954 Philadelphia Inquirer Album of Baseball Stars half set. This half of the set, issued Sept. 12 on a full newspaper page, consists of Robin Roberts, Arnold Portocarrero, Curt Simmons and Smokey Burgess. The page was cut horizontally, and each two-player panel is vg-ex. There are team-issued real photos from the Reds (7 1940s including Blackwell plus 1960s Pinson), Phils (Callison) and Red Sox (3), and three team-issued pictures from the Philadelphia A’s. Advertising provides some of the images: a 1962 Union Oil Volpe card of Podres, a 1964 Pirates KDKA poster of Bailey (heavily trimmed) and eight magazine or newspaper ads with Stanky, Fitzsimmons, Lavagetto, Dom DiMaggio and others. Sports Illustrated covers from the 1970s-80s are the source of 17 images, including Gossage, Oh, Dale Murphy, Boog Powell and Bo Jackson. Eleven TSN covers involve such stars as Mattingly, Henderson and Rice. Some of the more interesting photos are in color, some possibly Colofoto, from 1940s-50s newspapers: 1959 White Sox A.L. Champs, Yankees pitchers with Joe Page and Allie Reynolds, 1957 Milwaukee Braves N.L. Champs, Joe Gordon, Mickey Cochrane, Schoolboy Rowe, Bobby Shantz, Charley Keller, Joe Kuhel, Bill Goodman, Sam Mele, Jackie Jensen, Johnny Vander Meer, Ewell Blackwell, Dom DiMaggio, Billy Martin and Babe Dahlgren. Joe DiMaggio is shown in a cartoon with Tony and Billy Conigliaro. Size and condition vary. Vg+ to ex overall.
