Lot 327.  32 Cards from the 1932 Saba Cigarettes “Conquest of the Air” German Set. These 2 3/8” x 1 5/8” cards contain color artwork of airplanes from around the world on the front and basic information, including top speed, on the back. The German name for the set, which apparently comprises 234 cards, is “Die Eroberung der Luft.” Fifteen cards depict U.S. planes, and another 13 are English. Boeing produced two of the U.S. planes, and Vickers, two others. One card is vg, one vg+, one vg-ex, four ex, one nm with very minor back damage and 24 nm or better.

Lot 328.  3 Different 1930s British Issues Featuring Airplanes. 1. 1936 Ardath Tobacco Fighting & Civil Aircraft starter set, 14 of 25. These colorful cards measure 3 ¾” x 2 11/16”. Vg-ex with a few in better and a few in lesser condition. 2. 1938 Godfrey Phillips Aircraft partial set, 39 of 50. 29 are vg-ex or better, and the remaining 10 are vg or less. These full-color cards measure 1 7/16” x 2 5/8”. 3. 1935 John Player & Sons Aeroplanes (Civil), 4 different. Three are ex, and one is vg-ex.

Lot 329.  Partial Set of 1940 T87 Wings Set 1 – 39 of 50. About one-third of the cards are vg or less. The remaining two-thirds are vg-ex and better, and about half of these ex-m or better.

Lot 332.  Near Set of 1940 T87 Wings Set B – 44 of 50. All but two of the cards in this near set are ex or better. The vast majority are ex-m or better.

Lot 333.  300+ Airplane Spotter Cards and 40+ Tank Spotter Cards. The airplane cards are from four different sets, three of which appear to be World War II vintage. The only identifiable source is the Royal Observer Corps Club. In this group of 4 ½” x 3 ¼” cards in a horizontal format, each plane is represented by three different cards, designated, for example, “63, 63A and 63B.” Besides the number, the backs identify the club and credit “The Aeroplane.” Most of the cards from 63-115 are present. The three other groups of airplane cards are in a vertical format. A group of 3” x 4 ½” cards is numbered 1-40. Thirty-seven are present. These cards have blank backs. Twenty-eight 3” x 5” cards have three airplane silhouettes in a vertical format on one side and photos of the planes in a horizontal format on the other side. The Corsair, the P-51 Mustang and the Messerschmitt are represented. Finally, a group of 4” x 5 ¼” blank-backed cards has three images. Many have writing on the back. This group contains duplicates. Lot 334.  U.S. Navy Airplane Spotter Cards, Spotter Playing Cards, Defunct Airline Cards. This collection comprises 11 distinct sets (“decks”) of cards in their original boxes. Four Recognition Study Cards sets are from the U.S. Navy. Three showing “U.S. and Foreign Aircraft” have different “Device” numbers: 5E10B, 5E14B and 5E14H. The fourth set, Device 5E11A, features “National Military Aircraft Markings. These Navy cards are not playing cards. U.S. Games Systems is the source of three playing card sets: 1997 “Airplane Spotter…World War II,” “Naval Spotter…1940’s-1960’s” and “Facsimile of World Ward II Airplane Spotter.” Action Products produced a set of “WWII Spotter Cards.” There also are 20 cards from an unidentified set that has silhouettes of planes on one side and a paragraph of information on the other. Two decks of airline playing cards are from TWA. British Airways, which is still flying, also issued a set. Except for the 20 additional cards, these cards average nm. The condition of the boxes ranges from p-f to nm, with most ex or better.

Lot 341.  1958 Master Vending Cardmaster Jet Aircraft of the World Starter Set – 40 of 100. Full-color cards the size of Bowman cards average vg-ex to ex with a few in lesser and others in better condition. They feature planes from the U.S., Great Britain, the USSR, France, Italy, Canada and Sweden. These are primarily fighter planes with some commercial craft, such as the Boeing 707. The X15 and the B52 are included.
