1946 Red Sox at Cardinals World Series Game 7 Program, Game 6 Scorecard.
Lot 120. 1946 Red Sox at Cardinals World Series Game 7 Program, Game 6 Scorecard. In 1946, Ted Williams played in the World Series for the only time in his career, and his National League counterpart, Stan Musial, reached the series for the last time. Neither superstar was a factor as pitching dominated the series. The teams were evenly matched, and Game 7 was tied through 7 ½ innings. In the bottom of the eighth inning with two out and Enos Slaughter on first, Harry Walker singled to left-center field. Running at full-speed, Slaughter scored on the single, sliding home just ahead of the throw by Johnny Pesky, who had hesitated for a second before hurling the ball toward home. Slaughter’s run became known as his “Mad Dash,” and it gave the Cardinals the Championship. Pitching in relief, Harry Brecheen was the winning pitcher. The victory made him the first left-handed pitcher to win three games in a World Series. Besides Musial and Williams, other future Hall of Fame members pictured in the 32-page program are Schoendienst, Slaughter, Doerr and Cronin, the Red Sox manager. Four HoF executives also are shown, Chandler, Harridge, Frick and Yawkey. Other familiar faces are those of Joe Garagiola and Dom DiMaggio. The program is neatly scored in pen for Game 7 and is vg-ex. Also included is a Game 6 scorecard, which apparently was sponsored by St. Louis businesses. It is nicely scored in pencil and nm.
Winning Bid $134.
