Lot 63. 9 Polo Grounds Pre-Linen Stadium Postcards + a 1905 Giants B&W Scorecard PC. The scorecard postcard by J. T. Dye is the black and white version. It pictures Ames, Bowerman, Mertes, Mathewson, McGinnity and Taylor. Unused and vg+ to ex. Among the pre-linen stadium postcards are some scarce issues. Three different cards have photos of McGraw in the upper right corner. For cards that have been postally used, the cancellation date is given. 2. #25895, “National League Base Ball Park, New York, N.Y.” in upper left in red, interior view from right center field toward home showing entire wooden grandstand, fans in lower left, back divided 1/3 – 2/3, “Post Card” in large shaded script, Pictorial News Co., canceled in 1910, vg. 3. 1148, “National League Baseball Park, New York,” two- line red title, Success Postal Card Co., canceled 1913, ex. 4. 2647, “Polo Grounds, New York, ” rare and valuable, classic exterior view from past right field stands with Helmar cigarettes ad on wall, airplane in upper left, McGown-Silsbee, vg+-ex. One of the best stadium postcards ever produced. 5. N.Y.376, “Polo Grounds, New York. The Home of the New York Giants,” © Brown Bros., interior view from right center field towards home, fans standing in front, white border, edge of top of upper deck on left, no flags, no-McGraw variation of 5032, vg-ex. 6. 5032 “Polo Grounds, National League Baseball Park, New York” in white border, McGraw in oval on right, interior view from right-center field toward home, fans standing in front, section of fence shows, more edge of top of upper deck on left tan #4, flags on top, blue back, Manhattan, ex+. 7. R-37734 “Polo Grounds, New York City, Home of the New York Giants.” Variation of 5032, edge of top of upper deck on left, flags on top, clouds, two-line title, blue back, no border, McGraw in oval at right, American Art, vg-ex. 8. 1148, similar to #3 but with two-line title in black and McGraw in upper right, Success Postal Card Co., vg-ex. 9. 9997, “A Baseball Game at the Polo Grounds as seen from an airship, New York,” aerial view from beyond left field toward first base, train tracks in lower left, blue back, white border, canceled 1928, vg. 10. 101663 “Polo Grounds, New York City, The Home of the New York Giants,” interior view from right field toward infield, main stands on left, white border, no Medusa figure, Manhattan, canceled 1938.
