Lot 40.  1930 Post Cereal “Famous North Americans” Complete Panel with Christy Mathew-son. These cereal box cards were printed in panels of four. This panel features Andrew Jackson, Dan’l Boone, Mathewson and Pocahontas. Retaining its strong original colors, it’s an absolute beauty! Nm with the dotted cutting line showing essentially all the way around. The value of an nm Mathewson card alone, according to The Sports Collectors Digest 2008 Standard Catalog of Baseball Cards, is $600. What’s the complete panel with Mathewson worth? Lot 153.  Circa 1910 S67 Indian Portraits Complete Run – Numbers 1-25. These silks, which measure about 2” x 3 ¼”, feature colorful portraits of individual Indians. A factory is designated at the top of each silk. The Indian’s name appears beneath his portrait. “TOKIO Cigarettes” and the number of the silk are at the bottom. The American Tobacco Company distributed the silks in packages of Tokio Cigarettes. The list: #1 British, 2 White Swan, 3 Agate Arrow Point, 4 Chief Gall, 5 Black Hawk, 6 Geronimo, 7 Always Riding, 8 Cayatanita, 9 Iron Bull, 10 Great War Chief, 11 Red Cloud, 12 John Yellow Flower, 13 Bull Head, 14 Noon Day, 15, Keokuk, 16 Red Bird, 17 Black Eye, 18 Red Thunder, 19 Clam Fish, 20 Chief Joseph, 21 Keojuk’s Son, 22 Big Razor, 23 Crows Breast, 24 Lean Wolf, 25 Young Whirlwind. There is some fraying along the top and bottom edges of the silks, which is often the case with this type of issue. At the same time, the silks are free of stains and yellowing, and the colors appear to be as bold as the day they were applied to the silk.

Lot 154.  For The Birds!! 290 Vintage Bird Cards Including “Useful Birds” Complete Sets. Of the 260 cards, 232 are from Arm & Hammer “Useful Birds of America” series. Arm & Hammer issued these cards from 1915-38. The 1922 J7 Third Series is complete at 30 cards. This is the small variety, which is ex-m+ (many better, a few less). There are two 1938 J9-6 Tenth Series sets that are also complete. They consist of 15 cards each, and each grades ex-m to nm. Accompanying these sets is one complete 1938 15-card J9 Ninth Series set and seven near sets. Card #14 is the only card missing from the seven near sets. The set and near sets come in their original envelopes, which primarily are glassine. These cards are exceptionally nice, averaging ex-m to nm. The remaining Arm & Hammer cards are the large versions from Series 1-4, 7 and 8 and six small cards. They average vg-ex to ex. Fifty-two cards were issued in 1977 by the General Cigar Co. of Canada. Among them are 33 different cards from this 36-card set. These cards average vg. Also, 5 Quaker Pack-O-Ten Bird Cards and one exceptionally beautiful Patterson Candy Co. of Canada Blue Bird card. The Quaker cards grade ex-m, and the Patterson card, p-f.

Lot 155.  2 Uncut 1928 W513 “Strip Card” Panels. Each panel contains 5 Cards and each features persons famous from the early history of aviation. Panel 1: #51 Charles Lindbergh, 52 Commander Byrd, 53 Chamberlain, 54 Levine, 55 Brock. Panel 2: #56 Schlee, 57 Bertaud, 58 Medcalf, 59 Hamilton, 60 Nungesser. Each panel is incredibly rare, and each is nm.

Lot 157.  1930s Mutoscope Band Leaders – Complete Set of 32. This ex-m to nm set has postcard backs. It features black and white photos of band leaders. Some of the noteworthy band leaders are Count Basie, Tommy Dorsey, Benny Goodman, Harry James and Glen Miller.

Lot 158.  1930s R184 Type 2 Indian Chiefs - 16 of 24 in 4 High-Grade Uncut Panels. This is only the second time that we have offered cards from this scarce and desirable non-sport set. It is the first time that we have offered them in uncut panel form. As if uncut panels are not incredible enough, consider that fact each panel grades nm to nm-m. Panel 1: #110, 111, 121, 109. Panel 2: #123, 122, 104, 120. Panel 3: #112, 102, 101, 115. Panel 4: #117, 119, 103, 113.

Lot 159.  1938 Gum Inc. “Horrors of War” Uncut Panel of 4. Wow! How many of these uncut panels have you seen? This one features spectacular artwork and blazing colors, which are the hallmarks of this great set. The cards that make up this vertical panel are #53, 59, 65 and 71. A bit of back damage and some creasing on the bottom card dictate the technical grade of g-vg. This magnificent example displays as ex to ex+.

Lot 160.  1940s Gene Autry Exhibit Blue Tint – Complete Set of 32. Autry’s popularity as a western cowboy star began in the late 1930s and ran through the mid 1950s. He reached the peak of his popularity from 1940-42. In 1961 Autry became a baseball executive as owner of the then expansion Los Angeles Angels. He served as the president of the team from 1983 until his death in 1998. This set features Autry from his cowboy heyday and is in exceptional condition. Nm overall.

Lot 163.  Alberto Vargas Deck of Pin-up Playing Cards Sealed in the Original Box. In 1919, Vargas was contracted full-time by famed stage producer Florenz Ziegfeld. Perhaps this is where he got the inspiration for his artwork that later graced the pages of Esquire magazine and a multitude of other venues. Vargas was the most successful of the pinup artists. In 1940 he produced the first calendar with his pin-up artwork. It was an enormous success. The playing cards, which appear to be 1940s to early 1950s, feature a wide variety of Vargas girls from his original paintings. Factory sealed in the original cellophane, the deck presumably is complete, and MINT. The colorful box that holds it is nm.

Lot 165.  1953 Roy Rogers “South of Caliente” Complete Set of 24 Cards. With photos and text printed in black on a cream-colored paper stock, these cards are uncommon. Complete sets are downright rare. These 1 ¾” x 2 ½” cards were issued by the Times Confectionery Co. with “Roy Rogers Bubble Gum.” Text on the back of the cards tells the story. The cards are in superb condition, grading nm+ overall.

Lot 166.  1956 A&BC Gum “Elvis Presley” Series Starter Set – 35 of 66 + a Bonus. These extremely scarce cards are the English version of the Topps-Bubbles set. Four cards are blank-backed: #12, 25, 35 and 59. The numbers are written neatly in ink in the upper right hand corner on the back. The cards were printed in England, and except for the size, they are identical to the 1956 Topps-Bubbles issue. These cards are 2 5/8” x 3 ¾”, while the U.S. cards are 2 ½” x 3 ½”. As a result, these cards have larger photo images and larger print. In addition, the backs have an “A&BC” copyright and say “Printed in England.” Ex: #5, 15, 24, 32, 42, 47, 61, 63. Vg-ex: #13, 29, 45, 60. Vg: #10, 65. F-g: #3, 9, 12, 16, 25, 30, 34, 35, 37, 48, 50, 52, 57, 59, 64. P-f: #1, 38. P: #22, 28, 41, 55.
