Lot 777. Eclectic Collection, Mostly in French, Some Related to Zutphen in the Netherlands. Zutphen was the site of a battle in 1586 as part of the Eighty Years War, which saw the Netherlands gain independence from Spain. In World War II, the 3rd Canadian Division captured the city in April 1945. Several items offered have a connection to Zutphen. One is 24” x 19 ½” map, which is printed on quality rag paper, titled “Ducatus Geldria et Zutphania Comitatus.” Rolled and vg. Three other images on two large sheets of paper deal with Zutphen in WWII. They reproduce in b&w artwork by Rex Allyn created in 1999-2000. One contains an excellent 14” x 23” portrait of Lt. Gerard Jean of Le Regiment de la Chaudiere. Rolled and ex. Also: a 20” x 16” photo of 1962-63 graduates of the University of Montreal, vg, and a 1966 diploma from the university, all in French. And a 28” x 24” poster from the Salvador Dali Museum, vg. Unusual. The Zutphen items are especially interesting.
