Lot 19. Rare 1928-29 Boston Garden Official Program Focusing on NHL Pioneers, Boxing. Hockey is literally front-and-center in this 64-page program that is extensively illustrated with photos. Both the Boston Bruins and the Harvard hockey team are featured. It was only four years earlier that the Bruins had become the first NHL franchise in the U.S. The program contains a Bruins team picture, as well as three pages of individual photos with brief biographical sketches. Among the notables pictured are Art Ross, Eddie Shore, Dit Clapper, Harry Oliver and Cooney Weiland. Six pages are devoted to Harvard and amateur hockey. Two pages summarize the 1927-28 NHL season, and standings for the 1924-25 to 1927-28 seasons are presented. The center spread contains the lineups for a Harvard-Dartmouth game. Boxing also receives substantial attention, with photos of Jack Dempsey, “Honey Boy” Finnegan, Joe Dundee, Gus Sonnenberg and Mickey Walker. The program has been vertically folded, and there is some damage to the upper right of the front cover and first six inside pages. Rare program with great artwork on the cover and outstanding content.
