Excellent Autographed Portrait of Carl Hubbell.
Lot 114. Excellent Autographed Portrait of Carl Hubbell. In baseball history, no doubt a few left-handed pitchers were better than Hubbell. Lefty Grove, Sandy Koufax and Warren Spahn are possible examples. But none of them ever equaled one of Hubbell’s accomplishments – striking out Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Jimmie Foxx, Al Simmons and Joe Cronin in succession. Hubbell did it in the 1934 All-Star Game. Winner of 253 games against 154 losses in 16 seasons with the New York Giants, he was enshrined at Cooperstown in 1947. He loved baseball, and after his playing days, he worked in the Giants’ front office. He was director of their farm system in the 1950s-60s. The photo has some light creases that are evident upon close examination. The signature is a 10. Authenticated by Kevin Keating.
Winning Bid $65.
