Lot 155. Rare 1948 W469 Sports Champions Exhibit Cards on Thin Paper – Baugh, Etc. On regular exhibit stock, these cards are uncommon. On thin paper, they are downright rare. The thin-paper variations were produced for point-or-purchase displays or other promotional purposes. Three cards are offered here, all featuring football players. These cards have the same poses as the 1948-52 Football Exhibit set. Text beneath the player’s facsimile autograph distinguishes the Sports Champions, a set that includes players from a variety of sports. The players are: Sammy Baugh, vg-ex, text reads, “Washington Redskins National Professional League Passing Champion.” John Lujack, ex, “Notre Dame and Chicago Bears N.F.L., All-American. Voted ‘Outstanding Collegiate Player’ 1947.” Bulldog Turner, vg+, “Chicago Bears N.P.L. (Sic.) One of the Greatest Centers in Professional Football.”
