This game saw one one of the most memorable and historic moments in New York Yankees World Series history. In the bottom of the 9th inning with the score 1-1, Mickey Mantle came to the plate. On the first pitch from Cardinals reliever Barney Schultz, he connected, driving the ball into the right field stands. This game-winning hit was Mantle’s 16th home run, the most ever in World Series competition. Mantle and Babe Ruth had been tied at 15 home runs.
