Jacques Plante Limited Edition Mask.
Lot 136. Jacques Plante Limited Edition Mask. He revolutionized goaltending, but Plante is perhaps best remembered as the first goalie to wear a mask on a regular basis. In 1959, a puck off the stick of Andy Bathgate struck the Montreal Canadiens’ goalie in the nose, leaving him in a pool of blood. After being stitched up, Plante returned to the game wearing a mask, which he had sometimes worn in practice. Reluctantly, Canadiens coach Toe Blake allowed Plante to continue using the mask. Offered here is a limited edition replica of the mask, #2 of 82, mounted on an 11 ½” x 13” wood plaque. The fiberglass mask simulates the signs of use that were apparent on Plante’s original version.
Winning Bid $225.
