8 Newspaper Photos Featuring the Waner Brothers.

Lot 23. 8 Newspaper Photos Featuring the Waner Brothers. Two photos, each 6 ½” x 8 ½”, were published in the Philadelphia Record on Sept 1, 1939. One shows Paul and Lloyd talking in the dugout prior to a game. In the other, Lloyd makes a behind-the-back reception of a $10 bill from Paul. Vg to vg-ex with minor retouching, cropping marks and a newspaper filing label at the edge. Three more photos are also 6 ½” x 8 ½”. Two of these 1928 P&A Photos show the brothers on a vaudeville tour in San Francisco. After the 1928 World Series, they earned $2,000 a week by telling baseball jokes. In one photo, Paul, in a suit, pretends to play catcher as his wife bats. Ex, caption attached. In another, the brothers are at a microphone of KPO radio. Vg, tiny edge tear, lower left corner torn in border, caption attached. The third, an ex-m Acme News Pictures photo, shows the brothers in uniform. The final three photos are as follows: 1. A 1942 AP Wirephoto that shows Waner and his son, Paul Jr., prior to a game as he approached his 3,000th hit. This retouched 8” x 10” photo is vg+ with cropping marks. 2. A 1939 Philadelphia Record photo captures “Little Poison” apparently deep in thought during a game with the Phillies. This 6 ½” x 8 ½” photo has been retouched, shows cropping marks and has a filing label attached at the left. Strong image. 3. A 1937 AP photo shows Waner at bat in spring training. The photo is 7” x 9” and vg with staple holes in the top and bottom borders.
