Lot 206. 1927 World Series Poster Featuring Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig. This 14” x 17” thin-paper poster is from the Dispatch News Service, purveyor of “News of the World in Pictures.” Dated Oct. 10, 1927, it offers this headline: “Yankees Beat Pirates 6-2 In Second World Series Game Before A Crowd Of 44,000” at Forbes Field. The poster is a composite of five photos: 1. Gehrig, Col. Ruppert, Miller Huggins and Ruth in a discussion before the game. 2. Pittsburg pitchers, Lee Meadows, Vic Aldridge, Roy Kremer, Carmen Hill and John Miljus. 3. Lloyd Waner scoring the first run in the first inning. 4. Koenig of the Yankees making a single in the first inning. 5. George Pipgras, “hero of the second game.” With Ruth batting .400 and driving in seven runs, the Yankees swept the Pirates in four games. Vg because of some creases and minor tears. Great for display.
