Lot 205. Dispatch News Service Poster, Wheaties Ad Featuring Lou Gehrig. From the 1920s well into the 1950s, Dispatch News Service and its competitors distributed thin-paper posters featuring the day’s news and sports events. In a 14”x 17” poster dated Oct. 7, 1927, Gehrig slides safely into home in the first game of the World Series at Pittsburgh. He is pictured in an inset set against a general view of Forbes Field. The Yankees won the opener, 5-4. Vg, displays as ex with great eye appeal. The ad, which is about 10 ½” x 14” and framed, has a large photo of Gehrig batting and smaller photos of Mickey Cochrane, Lon Warneke and Jimmy Foxx. Vg-ex.
