Framed Baseball Magazine Covers of Lefty Grove and Mickey Cochrane
Lot 204. Framed Baseball Magazine Covers of Lefty Grove and Mickey Cochrane represent an interesting story. Both Hall of Fame players entered the game in 1925. Both played for the Philadelphia Athletics. Both were members of the 1929 and 30 World Series winning team. Grove was a fiery competitor with a blazing fastball who hated to lose. In nine of 17 seasons, his ERA was the American League’s best. Known for his fiery temper, Cochrane was known to join teammate Grove in tearing up locker rooms after difficult losses. The March 1930 cover with Grove has slight black- ink overprint at the top. The August, 1929 cover with Cochrane is an illustration by Granville Fisher and appears nm. Matted and framed together, the covers measure 26 1/2” x 17 1/2” overall and offers a stunning display piece for the Philly A’s collector. Both are full magazines.
Winning Bid $107.
