Lot 38. 1886 Original Pen-and-Ink Caricature of Adrian “Cap” Anson. This attractive 10 ½” x 14” original drawing, dedicated to Anson, originated with the Anson family. It pictures him wearing his White Stockings uniform and holding a laurel wreath reading “Champions 1886.” It was almost certainly published in 1886. It has long been a practice for newspaper artists to present originals of artwork to featured subjects as a token of respect. Signed “McCutheon” in the lower right. It has light staining along the bottom border, corner chips and tape repairs. When properly matted and framed, this unique artwork will make a wonderful display. Period pieces like this rarely surface!
