14 1930s-40s Look Issues with Churchill, Lindbergh, Dionne Quints, Etc.
Lot 659. 14 1930s-40s Look Issues with Churchill, Lindbergh, Dionne Quints, Etc. Life magazine may have won the circulation wars but Look’s color covers were superior in the 1930s and 1940s. Because of lower circulation, the Look issues are much scarcer than Life’s. Through 1937, front covers have a main color photo and several small b&w photos. After that, a color photo occupies the full front cover. The issues: March 1937 (Vol. 1, No. 3), vg-ex, small front Garbo photo, large Marlene Dietrich photo on the back cover. April 1937, vg+ to ex, small Dietrich, large Jean Harlow on the back. May 1937, vg-ex, small Harlow; Clark Gable and Carole Lombard on the back. June 7, 1938, ex-m, Dionne Quintuplets at the age of four. Nov. 9, 1937, vg-ex, circus cover. April 11, 1939, ex-m, great Charles Lindbergh cover. Nov. 2, 1943, two copies, one ex-m+, one vg-ex, Maj. Gen. Claire Chennault. Feb. 22, 1944, vg+ to ex, Lois Barnes, dancer. Ernie Pyle is an ad on the back. May 2, 1944, ex, Chiang Kai-Shek. May 16, 1944, ex-m, Winston Churchill.
