Lot 539. Autographs of 3 Boston Celtics - Bill Russell, Sam Jones, Jack Nichols All are on a 3” x 5” sheet of paper. All three played on the 1957-58 Celtics team, which won the Eastern Division title. Russell revolutionized defensive basketball; there has never been a better defensive big man. Sam “The Clutch” Jones was a graceful, effective shooter whose specialty was the bank shot. Both Russell and Jones were selected among the 50 Greatest Players in NBA History in 1996, and both are in the Basketball Hall of Fame. Nichols, who retired after the 1957-58 season, averaged 10.2 points and 5.6 rebounds per game in 9 seasons. He died in 1992. Russell and Jones’ signatures are 10 of 10. Nichols’ is 9 of 10.
