Lot 197. For The Birds!! 260 Vintage Bird Cards Including “Useful Birds” Complete Sets. Of the 260 cards, 202 are from Arm & Hammer “Useful Birds of America” series. Arm & Hammer issued these cards from1915-38. The 1922 J7 Third Series is complete at 30 cards. This is the small variety, which is ex-m+ (many better, a few less) and books for $115. The 1938 J9-6 Tenth Series is also complete. It consists of 15 cards and grades ex-m to nm. Accom- panying these sets are seven 1938 J9 Ninth Series that are almost complete. Card #14 is missing from each of these 15-card sets. All of these near sets come in their original envelopes, which primarily are glassine. These cards are exceptionally nice, averaging ex-m to nm. The remaining Arm & Hammer cards are the large version from Series 1-4, 7 and 8 and six small cards. They average vg-ex to ex. Fifty-two cards were issued in 1977 by the General Cigar Co. of Canada. Among them are 33 different cards from this 36-card set. These cards average vg. Also, 5 Quaker Pack-O-Ten Bird Cards and one exceptionally beautiful Patterson Candy Co. of Canada Blue Bird card. The Quaker cards grade ex-m, and the Patterson card, p-f.
