Lot 174. 45 Vintage Life, Sunday News with Celebrity Covers. Most striking in this collection are 9 New York Sunday News covers from the late 1940s and early 1950s with such stars as Jimmy Stewart, Gregory Peck, Helen Hayes, William Holden, Joseph Cotton and a very young Robert Wagner. Each color image is about 11” x 15”. The issues with Stewart and Holden each have a tear of up to 3”. Otherwise, this group averages vg-ex, and the covers display very well. Fifteen issues of Life spanning 1946-84 feature diverse entertainers, including the Beatles, Frank Sinatra, Bing Crosby, Michael Jackson (2), Harrison Ford, Daryl Hannah, Raquel Welch, Charlie Chaplin, Liz Taylor and Ann-Margret. Two 1970s issues of the Saturday Evening Post have covers with Paul Newman and Norman Rockwell. Other publications include Ebony, Architectural Digest, Modern Screen, Song Hits, Screen Stories, Screenland, Radio Album and Quick with stars such as Diahann Carroll, Sinatra, Andy Williams, Bob Hope (2), Esther Williams (2), Ava Gardner, Mario Lanza, Crosby, Maureen O’Hara, Jane Wyman and Lucille Ball. These periodicals average ex, with some less, some better. There also are about 100 magazine pages carrying articles, photos and ads with Gary Cooper, Stewart, Jane Fonda, Jane Russell, Fred Astaire, Nat King Cole, Jack Benny, Errol Flynn, Shirley Jones, Tom Jones, Humphrey Bogart, Jerry Lewis, Johnny Mack Brown and others.
