Lot 330. 1955 Issues of Sports Illustrated Signed by Doak Walker and Skeeter Werner, Walker’s wife. Doak’s signature on the Oct. 3 issue in blue sharpie rates 10 of 10. Walker was a Hall of Fame halfback for SMU and then for the Detroit Lions. He won the Heisman Trophy in 1948. His wife, an Olympic skier, also signed in blue sharpie, “Skeeter Werner Walker.” Her signature on the Nov. 21 issue is also a 10. The issue with Doak is ex+, and the issue with Skeeter, nm. Gladys “Skeeter” Werner Walker was the oldest child in the famous Werner family that included Olympians Buddy and Loris. She completed in the 1956 Olympics. She met Doak while teaching him to ski in 1968. Ironically, Doak died in 1998 of complications from injuries he received in a skiing accident. Skeeter died in 2001. Authenticated by Kevin Keating.
