Original 1947 Full Ticket for the First Baseball All-Star Game at Wrigley Field.
Lot 182. Original 1947 Full Ticket for the First Baseball All-Star Game at Wrigley Field. We admit it. We’re not big fans of tickets. Of course, we encourage you to like them. And to spend a lot of money on them in our auctions. This two-part ticket is an exception, however. It’s large (2 ¼” x about 7”), nicely printed, and the condition is a solid ex with the only thing approaching a crease being a small “ding,” noticeable mainly on the back, in the lower right corner. It’s also from a pretty good baseball game. What was supposed to be a slugfest turned into a pitchers’ duel. Johnny Mize hit the game’s only home run, which accounted for the National League’s only scoring. The N.L. pitchers were also effective, but a throwing error by the Boston Braves Johnny Sain opened the door to the A.L.’s winning run. Ted Williams had two hits and Joe DiMaggio drove in a run in the junior circuit’s 2-1 win.
Winning Bid $390.
