Programs, Scorecards, Yearbooks, Etc.   4 Lots

Lot 178.  1912 Scorecard for June 1 New York Giants Game Won by Christy Mathewson. This 12-page program is neatly scored in pencil. Mathewson gave up 13 hits as the Giants defeated St. Louis, 13-4. The scoring is consistent with reported results of the game. The inside back cover has a photo of the Giants’ home, Brush Stadium. The covers, split along the seam at the top and bottom, remain attached. This Harry M. Stevens scorecard is unusually clean. Technically vg, looks better.
Winning Bid $148.

Lot 179.  Harry M. Stevens 1913 Scorecard for a Harvard vs. Yale Baseball Game in the Inaugural Season of Ebbets Field. Stevens was a pioneer in the production of scorecards, and this one has his name imprinted on it. Few scorecards from the early 1900s have survived. This 10-page “Official Program” for the June 21 college game features pictures of each team and a full page ad for A. G. Spalding & Bros. The program is scored. Apparently Harvard won, 6-5. Ebbetts Field opened in 1913. First and last pages inside have some ink marks picked up from opposing pages as the game was scored. Vg with an attractive cover. Seldom offered.
Winning Bid $113.

Lot 180.  1926 Original Baseball Scorecard for a New York at Cincinnati. Game Scorecards from the 1920s and earlier are uncommon. This 28-page “Official Score Book” has Dolph Luque, Edd Roush and Charlie Dressen in the lineup for the Reds. And Wally Pipp who, a year earlier, made the mistake of taking a day off and allowing Lou Gehrig to get into the New York Yankees’ lineup. The Giants featured such names and Fred Lindstrom, Frankie Frisch, Billy Southworth and Highpockets Kelly. The program has a picture of the 1926 Reds team and advertising for Louisville Slugger bats and Spalding and Goldsmith baseball equipment. Minor writing on the scoring page itself, complete, a couple of minor tape reinforcements and vg.
Winning Bid $75.

Lot 181.  1945 World Series Scorecard for Detroit vs. Chicago. Unscored four-page scorecard with printed lineups inside. Vg+ to ex.
Winning Bid $83.
