Lot 238. Huge, Rare 20” x 30” Photo of the 1940 Duquesne University Football Team. Never a football powerhouse, Duquesne University nevertheless fielded some decent football teams prior to the 1950s. The 1941 team, for example, went undefeated with eight victories and finished eighth in the AP poll. Many players on the 1941 team got a major taste of success in 1940, when the Dukes lost only to Mississippi. Among their victories was a 7-6 triumph over St. Mary’s. The photo has a major vertical crease near the middle with some paper loss that affects a small part of one player’s face. It also is rough around the edges. It also features clear images with sharp contrast. And it provides a good view of part of the Pittsburgh skyline.
