Lot 187. Complete Collection of “Carmichael’s” Who’s Who in Major League Baseball, 1935-52. All 19 issues are here, including the separate National League and American League versions issued in 1935. These guides could easily be known as the “Callahan” guides because B. E. Callahan published them during their 18-year run. Speed Johnson edited them 1935-37. Chicago Daily News sports editor John P. Carmichael then edited the annuals through their final issue in 1952. The 1935 (A.L. and N.L.), 1936, 1941, 1943, 1944, 1947, 1951 and 1952 issues are paperbacks. The five earlier issues are vg-ex, and the later issues, ex. Eight issues are hardbacks without dust jackets. One issue is g, three vg, one vg-ex and three ex. These grades primarily reflect the cover; the contents generally are ex or better. The 1946 and 1950 hardback issues have dust jackets. The 1946 is ex-m with a g+ to vg dj. The 1950 issue is ex-m; the dj has a tear on the back and otherwise is ex-m. These guides are well done.
