Lot 779. “The Science of Baseball,” 1922 First Edition by Byrd Douglas. This 191-page book, published by Thos. E. Wilson & Co., provides a thoughtful analysis of playing each position, as well as batting and base running. It is illustrated with photos of John McGraw, George Burns, Tris Speaker, Ty Cobb, Christy Mathewson, Babe Ruth, Emil Meusel, Frank Baker and others. Douglas played baseball at Vanderbilt and Princeton and then coached at each school. He led Vanderbilt to the Southern Intercollegiate Championship in 1921. Eventually, he left baseball and became a lawyer and then a judge in Tennessee. Price on the front end-page. Ex-m book, no dj as issued.
