Lot 470. Eight Books, Including the Harold Seymour Trilogy, of Baseball History. The three volumes by Cornell University Ph.D. and history professor Seymour remain the definitive scholarly history of baseball. The first volume, “Baseball: The Early Years,” appeared in 1960, and “Baseball: The Golden Age” followed in 1971. These books are part of a two-volume set. No dj as issued, ex. Seymour published “Baseball: The People’s Game” in 1990. Nm book and dj. All three appear to be first editions. Lee Allen provides baseball history in one volume, “100 Years of Baseball,” 1950, first ed., owner’s name inside, vg-ex book, no dj. Minor league baseball history is captured in “Bush League” by Robert Obojski, 1975 stated first printing, owner’s name inside, ex book and dj. The barriers to African-American players in the majors and their successful efforts to overcome them are the subject of three books: “Only the Ball Was White” by Robert Peterson, 1971, vg-ex book, no dj. “When the Game Was Black and White” by Bruce Chadwick, 1992 stated first, nm-m book, dj. “I Never Had It Made” by Jackie Robinson, 1972, ex book, vg+ dj.
