Hawaiian Christmas Card from the Philadelphia Athletics’ Eddie Joost.
Lot 716. Hawaiian Christmas Card from the Philadelphia Athletics’ Eddie Joost. The card with a hula-skirted fat Santa Claus wishes the recipient “Mele Kalikimaka” - Merry Christmas. Joost mailed the card from Honolulu in 1975. Inside the card, his wife signed a note “Eddie,” and then signed the card “Alice and Eddie Joost.” Signatures are 10s - in seasonal red, or course. Unable to get along with Bill McKechnie in Cincinnati and the Braves’ brain trust in Boston, Joost found a home in Philadelphia with the Athletics. He got along well with Connie Mack, who, according to Joost, treated his players like men. “It’s a privilege to hustle for him,” Joost said. An excellent shortstop who excelled at getting walks, Joost became a favorite of the Athletics’ fans. Unusual item. Authenticated by Kevin Keating.
Minimum Bid $25.
