Lot 304. Scarce 1914 Missouri Tigers – Kansas Jayhawks Football Pin. Classic colorful artwork with this text: “Oh Me! Oh My! Won’t We Black That Tiger’s Eye. Won’t He Weep! Won’t He Wail! When We Twist That Tiger’s Tail.” The Jayhawks’ boast was warranted; they won, 29-0, to complete an 8-1-1 season. They shut out six of their opponents and yielded only 38 points during the season – 23 to the Haskell Indians in the Jayhawks’ only loss. The 2 1/16” pin is ex-m with some foxing on the back.

Lot 305. 27 Different Super Bowl Champions Pins, 3 Related Pins, and a Banner to Display Them. These colorful pins, each approximately 3.5” in diameter, recognize the Super Bowl champion and runner-up from Super Bowl I in 1967 through Super Bowl XXVII in 1993. Each pin has the date of the game and the score. There are two different pins for Super Bowl XXVII; one, apparently from a different series, does not recognize the runner-up or provide the score. There also is a “World Champions” pin for the 1986 New York Giants and an “AFC Eastern Champions” pin for the 1988 Buffalo Bills. The 30 pins are nm-m. All are displayed on 14” x 41” “NFL Super Bowl Champions” red, black and white cloth banner.

Lot 306. 1930 USC vs. Pittsburgh Rose Bowl "Emergency" Armbrand. In Howard Jones’ inaugural trip to the Rose Bowl, his Trojans decisively defeated the Panthers, 47-14. Pitt faced an “emergency” in the game, giving up touchdowns on each of the first three passes by USC quarterback Russ Saunders. The armband, about 2 ¾” x 9”, is trimmed somewhat irregularly on the right and has some scrapbook residue on the back. It displays as ex. The armband gave the wearer admission to the Rose Bowl at Gate 27. Incredibly rare and unusual USC or Pitt collectible.

Lot 308. 10 Notre Dame Football Publications, 1960-97 – 4 Reviews, a Guide and 5 Programs. The “Football Reviews” are for the 1960 and 1968-70 seasons. The 1968 and 1969 teams finished fifth in the AP poll – with 7-2-1 record in 1968 and 8-2-1 in 1969. In 1979, the Fighting Irish lost only to USC, defeated Texas in the Cotton Bowl and ended the season at 10-1 and ranked second only to unbeaten Nebraska in the AP poll. These “Reviews” are vg to vg-ex with tape along the spine. The 50-page 1970 magazine has an article on Joe Theismann. The 1968 “Notre Dame Football Guide” has 90 pages of player photos and information, profiles of the season’s opponents, and historical and statistical information. Lot 309. Rockne Postcard, Brodie & Glickman Autographs, Packers and an O.J. Simpson Print. An interesting assortment of football collectibles: 1. An unused chrome postcard of Knute Rockne with a facsimile autograph. Ex. 2. John Brodie ex 5 autograph on a g 1973 Topps card #45. The 49ers quarterback is in the College Hall of Fame and earned various NFL Awards, including 1970 league MVP. 3. Marty Glickman mint 9 to gem mint 10 signature on a 2.5” x 3.25” magazine photo showing him as a football player. In the 1930s, Glickman was a track and field and football star at Syracuse. He became a radio announcer and a sportscaster famous for his broadcasts of New York Giants and Jets football games and New York Knicks basketball games. He died in 2001. 4. Jim Plunkett gem mint 10 autograph on 1981 Topps football card #335. Enshrined in the College Football Hall of Fame, he was an All-American quarterback at Stanford and played professionally for the Patriots, 49ers and Raiders. He helped the Raider to win two Super Bowls. 5. An 8” x 10” composite color photo of the Green Bay Packers, Super Bowl XXXI Champions, ex-m, background scuff in the upper right corner. 6. An O. J. Simpson 20” x 26” Limited Edition Print with A. Douglas Artwork. This print portrays Simpson as a football player for USC, the Buffalo Bills and San Francisco 49ers and as a broadcaster for NBC. Lot 310. 5 University of Pittsburgh Programs for Home Games. Two programs are for Pitt’s Oct. 27, 1979 game with Navy. Pitt won, 24-7 on its way to an 11-1 season and seventh place in the AP poll. Four future Hall of Fame members are in the programs – Rickey Jackson in the Pro HoF, Hugh Green and Mark May in the College HoF, and Dan Marino in both. One program is ex-m+, and the other, ex with two small stains on the front cover. The Nov. 3, 1979 program for Pitt’s game with Syracuse is vg+ to ex. It has some soiling on the white areas of the front cover , scores added to a schedule inside, and names added to the rosters. Future Steelers placekicker Gary Anderson, linebacker Craig Bingham and lineman Craig Wolfley are among the Orangemen, and so is future College and Pro HoF wide receiver Art Monk. Pitt won, 28-21. On Oct. 30, 1982, the Panthers overwhelmed Louisville, 63-14. The program for the game is vg-ex and includes Marino, as well as three other HoF Panthers, Chris Doleman (Pro), Bill Fralic (College) and Jimbo Covert (both). The Panthers defeated rival Penn State, 10-0, on Nov. 14, 1987. The ex-m game program has quarterback Sal Genilla on the cover. Craig (Ironhead) Heyward is one of his teammates pictured inside. Accompanying the programs is a Pitt beer can from Iron City. It lists the university’s nine football national championships from 1915-76. The can is used and vg-ex.

Lot 312. Penn State Joe Paterno Memorabilia and 18 2011 Team Card Sets. On the cover of the Dec. 22-29, 1986 issue of “Sports Illustrated,” Paterno is honored as Sportsman of the Year. His Nittany Lions won all 11 of their games during the regular season. Subsequently, they claimed the national title by defeating Jimmy Johnson’s top-ranked Miami team, 14-10 in the Fiesta Bowl. Paterno is profiled in an eight-page article in the magazine. One copy of the issue is ex-m except for a scuff and edge tear on the back cover. The other issue is g+ to vg with a scuff and stain in the lower left corner of the front cover where a label was removed. Paterno is also the subject of an undated circa 1975-80 long-playing 33 1/3 rpm record from Total Communications Systems. Titled “Penn State Football Joe Paterno,” it is narrated by Ray Scott and contains commentary by Franco Harris, Mike Reid, Jack Ham, Rip Engle and others. They record is mint minus and appears to be unplayed. The jacket has two small corner creases and an ex appearance. This collection also includes 18 card sets from The Second Mile charity. Each set has 25 cards 24 players and Nittany Lion mascot. The sets are nm-m. One of the players is Devon Still, a defensive end who gave up his pro career to care for his daughter as she underwent treatment for stage 4 cancer. Available reports indicate that she is cancer-free. Other players in the card set are Matt McGloin, Gerald Hodges and Michael Mauti, the Big 10 Linebacker of the Year in 2012.

Lot 313. Starting Lineup “Classic Doubles” – Aikman-Staubach, Montana-Rice & 6 More “Pairs." Five of these offerings are from 1997, two from 1998 and one from 1999. The 1997 “Winning Pairs” are Troy Aikman-Roger Staubach, Dwight Clark-Joe Montana, Dan Marino-Bob Griese, Brett Favre-Bart Starr and Joe Montana-Jerry Rice. The pair of 1998 Pairs are Dick Butkus-Junior Seau and Emmitt Smith-Troy Aikman. And from 1999, Chris Carter and Randy Moss. All of the action figures are mint in their original packages. The package fronts are nm-m, some with qualifiers. Butkus-Seau is nm-m. Marino-Griese and Montana-Rice are each nm-m with a light corner crease on the back. Smith-Aikman is nm-m with a tiny corner crease on the front. Aikman-Staubach and Favre-Starr have nm-m fronts, and each has a crease on the back. Lot 314. Joe Montana San Francisco 49ers Replica Jersey Framed to 36” x 37”. The Montana jersey is mint, framed with black metal and displayed beneath a Plexiglas front. On “The Sporting News” list of Football’s 100 Greatest Players, Montana ranked third, behind only Jim Brown and Jerry Rice. He led San Francisco to four Super Bowl Championships and was the MVP in three of the title games. He was the NFL MVP twice, the Offensive Player of the Year in 1986, a first-team All-Pro three times and a Pro Bowl selection eight times. He led the league in passing touchdowns twice and passer rating twice and in completion percentage five times. Lot 316. Joe Namath New York Jets Starter Replica Jersey Framed for Display. The metal frame is 36” x 37” with Plexiglas on the front. The jersey is mint. “The Sporting News” ranked Namath 96th on its 1999 list of Football’s 100 Greatest Players. In the publication, Hall of Fame linebacker Ted Hendricks listed Namath behind only Johnny Unitas among quarterbacks he had seen. “Broadway Joe” was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1985. In 1969 in Super Bowl III, he led the Jets to the first win by an American Football League team. He was the game’s MVP as the Jets defeated Baltimore, 16-7. Lot 317. Kenny Stabler Framed Oakland Raiders Starter Replica Jersey. The black jersey with Stabler’s name and number in silver is mint and in a 36” x 37” black frame with Plexiglas on the front. Stabler was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2016. In 1974, he was the NFL MVP and Offensive Player of the Year. In 1977, he led Oakland to a decisive win over Minnesota in Super Bowl XI. He made the Pro Bowl roster four times, led the NFL in passing touchdowns and completion percentage twice and in passer rating once. He was named to the league’s 1970s All-Decade Team. In 1976, he earned the Bert Bell Award, given each year by the Maxwell Football Club to the NFL’s Player of the Year. Stabler died in 2015.
