Lot 119.  Scarce Postcard Featuring the Chicago “Cubs, National League Champions, 1910." Hall of Fame members Johnny Evers, Joe Tinker, Frank Chance and Mordecai Brown are among the 24 players and executives in individual photos on this card. The 1910 Cubs won the National League title by 13 games and then lost to Connie Mack and Philadelphia Athletics in five games in the World Series. The card was postmarked in Oct. 1910. The front is vg. The back is missing a ½” wide layer of paper along most of the top edge, making the card p-f.

Lot 121.  1910 T210 Old Mill Cigarettes Series 3 Card of Everett Hornsby – Rogers’ Brother. The greatest contribution of Everett “Pep” Hornsby to baseball was helping to develop his younger brother’s interest in the game and his capabilities. The brother was Rogers Hornsby, 12 years younger than “Pep,” who had a 10-season minor league career as a pitcher. This Red Border Texas League card with Everett’s photo is free of creases, shows corner wear and edge wear, and has five small or small-to-moderate chips in the red border. Vg-ex.

Lot 122.  10 Early 1900s Baseball Postcards Featuring Local and Military Teams – and Humor. Black & white postcards: 1. Young player catching a ball. The card promotes “The Evening Wisconsin.” 2. Humorous card, six boys with baseball equipment hidden behind their backs ask a mother: “Please, Mrs. Smith, can Johnny come with us to Sunday School?” Postmarked, apparently 1938. Color postcards; all show games in progress, and almost all are pre-linen: 3. Wayne Field Base Ball Park, Toledo, Ohio, from the Progressive News Co. of Toledo. Postmarked. 4. The National American Game “Baseball” in Jackson Park, Chicago, from Koelling & Klapenbach of Chicago. 5. Base Ball Game, York Beach, Me., postmarked in 1912. 6. Vista Alegre Club, Cuba, from the E. C. Kropp Co. of Milwaukee. These three pre-linen cards show baseball action related to the military: 7. Baseball – The Army Game, with the YMCA logo. 8-9. Base Ball Diamond, Jefferson Barracks, St. Louis, Mo. (2 the same) from Majestic. Also: 10. A “Casey at Bat” humorous postcard, likely 1950s-60s, showing a coin-operated device at the Fort Worth Zoo and a baseball-playing chicken! These postcards average vg-ex. Three of them are postmarked with messages on the back.

Lot 124.  Assortment of 46 Baseball Cards, 1927-73, Plus a 1969 Set of Playing Cards. Cards in this collection are from Kahn’s, Fleer, Topps and other sources. The earliest card is a 1927 W512 of Everett Scott, #7 in the set, with the Chicago White Sox. This strip card is 1 5/16” x 2 5/16”, neatly cut from a sheet of cards, and vg-ex. Here is a list of the other cards: 1938 Cincinnati Reds team issue, Gamble, p. FLEER (22): 1959 Ted Williams, #11 Williams with Foxx f-g, 21 p, 23 vg, 45 f and 51 p. 1963 #10 vg-ex, 22 Kaat f, 24 f-g, 26 Terry p, 32 Santo p-f, 33 (4) one is vg-ex the other 3 are p-f, 35 g-vg, 44 vg, 55 Burgess vg+, 59 Mazeroski p, 60 Boyer (2) one is f the other p and 62 p. 1972 Baseball’s Famous Feats, #25 Ott vg-ex. KAHN’S (17): 1964, Alvis f, Harper vg+, Nuxhall g, Purkey vg+, Virdon vg-ex and Wagner (2) one is vg the other is g. 1965, Coleman f, Jay f, Lemaster vg, Oliver vg and Pagliaroni p. 1966, Johnson ex, Maloney (white hat) vg-ex, McCool (white hat) ex, and Pinson ex+. (These 4 cards are without the Kahn’s tab and are irregularly trimmed at the bottom). 1967, Pavletich vg-ex. TOPPS (4): 1962, #29 Stengel, p. 1969 Deckle Edge, #5 vg-ex, 14 vg-ex and 19 Santo g. SPORT HOBBYIST: 1971 T-206 Series, Abstein, Bradley and Bresnahan, overall ex. TMCA: 1973, J. E. Clapp, reprinted from Harper’s Weekly vg-ex. The playing card set of 52 was issued by Globe Imports in 1969. These blank-back cards are approximately 1 11/16” x 2 ¼” and feature black & white player photos on white paper slightly thicker than paper commonly used for printing. Among the players are Mays, Rose, Banks, Seaver and both Robinsons. This set is consistent with a Beckett checklist; it does not include the Mickey Mantle variation for the ace of spades. The set is nm to nm-m.

Lot 132.  Cobb (2), Ruth (2) Artvue and Waner Albertype Hall of Fame Plaque Postcards. Three of these cards are 1953-55 Artvue Type 1 cards (open bold holes): Cobb ex-m (2) and Ruth, ex. The second Ruth card is a 1956-63 Artvue Type 2 version (bolts in the corner); it grades fair (staple holes). Paul Waner appears in a 1946-62 Albertype Type 2 (corner bolts) card that is vg-ex.
