Lot 171. Tony Dungy Autographed Tampa Bay Buccaneers Full-Sized Pennant. As the Tampa Bay coach 1996-2001, Dungy built the team that won Super Bowl XXXVII with John Gruden at the helm. His Buccaneers teams made four playoff appearances and won their division in 1999. His signature is large and bold in silver against a complex background. Lot 172. Brian Griese Autographed Denver Broncos Pennant and a 1999 HoF Fame Game Pennant. In five seasons with the Broncos, Griese received a Super Bowl ring and was selected for the Pro Bowl in 2000. He was the starting quarterback from 1999 through 2002. His autograph is mint 9 on the Broncos pennant, which is nm+. Cleveland defeated Dallas in the 1999 Hall of Fame Game. The pennant is nm+. Autograph authenticated by Kevin Keating.

Lot 173. Gayle Sayers (HoF) Signed 8” x 10” Color Photo. When he was healthy, Sayers was among the NFL’s elite running backs. The 1965 Rookie of the Year, he led the league in rushing twice in his first five seasons. After that, knee injuries limited and then ended his career. He is in the Pro and College Halls of Fame. The movie “Brian’s Song” focuses on his friendship with Brian Piccolo. Sayers autograph is personalized, large and bold, nm-m 8, on an 8” x 10” color action photo. Lot 176. 5 Baseballs Signed by 30+ Houston Oilers. An OAL Bobby Brown ball is signed by College HoFer Jack Pardee (died 2013) and famed executive Bud Adams, now the owner of the Tennessee Titans. Pardee coached the Oilers for Adams from 1990-94. Mint 9 signatures on an nm-m ball. Oilers two-time Pro Bowl selection Lamar Lathon and Tom Williams autographed an ex ONL William White ball; nm-m 8 signatures. Lot 178. 4 Original 8” x 10” Color Johnny Unitas Photos. All four photos are attributed to Hugh B. McNally and appear to have been printed in 1973 in an edition of 300. All are ex-m to nm. One shows a posed Unitas ready to throw a football. Another captures game action, and a third has Unitas apparently removing his jacket before returning to the field to direct the Baltimore Colts’ offense. A fourth has a single-engine plane towing a sign saying “Unitas We Stand.” Wonderful display items of one of the best quarterbacks ever. In their listings of top athletes or top football players at the end of the 20th century, ESPN and “The Sporting News” ranked only Joe Montana as a better quarterback.

Lot 179. Original 1936-37 New Service Photo of a Green Bay Packers Game. The 6.75” x 9.75 b&w photo captures Packers running back Bob Monnett sweeping around end against an unidentified opponent. Because Monnett is wearing No. 5, the photo is likely from 1936 or 1937. He wore other jersey numbers in preceding seasons. This action photo is vg+ to ex with excellent focus and contrast.

Lot 180. 1968 Photo of Joe Namath Viewing New York City from His Apartment. Dated Dec. 24, 1968, the original photo is from a newspaper “morgue.” F. The photo appeared several weeks before Namath led the New York Jets to an upset victory over the Baltimore Colts in Super Bowl II.

Lot 181. 15 1969-70 AP Wire Photos from NFL Games – 6 Super Bowl IV and 3 Playoff Games. In Super Bowl IV played Jan. 11, 1970, in New Orleans, Kansas City defeated Minnesota, 23-7. Among the players in the photos are Otis Taylor, Len Dawson (in several photos), Jim Lindsey, Jerry Mays, Mike Garrett, Ed Budde and Robert Holmes. A photo from the AFL championship game has Wendell Hayes from the Chiefs and Dan Conners from the Raiders, and from the NFL championship, Gene Washington from the Vikings and Mike Howell from Cleveland. The Browns won the right to play the Vikings in a Dec. 28 playoff that is the subject of a photo showing Bob Lilly, Chuck Howley and Bo Scott. The six other photos show game action from regular-season November and December games. Stars of these photos include Joe Namath, Aaron Brown, O. J. Simpson, Verlon Biggs, Les Josephson, Craig Morton and Charlie Sanders. Teams are the Jets, Chiefs, Bills, Cowboys, Browns, Rams, Eagles, 49ers, Saints, Lions and Falcons. Newspapers received these photos electronically from AP and printed them on photographic paper. All of the photos have tape stains about 3/8” wide along the edges. Almost all are about 7” x 8.5”; the smallest is 6.25” x 8.25”. Three have the caption taped to the back; the 12 others have the caption printed with the photo. Almost all of the photos show moderate or better contrast and are generally vg. Four, including one Super Bowl photo, show lighter contrast, and one Super Bowl IV photo has players’ names written on the front.

Lot 182. 15 AP Wire Photos – 12 from 1970 Bowl Games Including Manning Plus Rockne Photos. Four photos are from the 1970 Sugar Bowl (Mississippi 27, Arkansas 22), five from the Rose Bowl (USC 10, Michigan 3) and three (two the same) from the Cotton Bowl (Texas 21, Notre Dame 17). Here are the highlights: Sugar Bowl - Two photos of Archie Manning and one with Arkansas’ Chuck Dicus. Rose Bowl - USC halfback and Rose Bowl MVP Bob Chandler, and Michigan’s Dan Dierdorf. Cotton Bowl – Texas quarterback James Street and coach Darrell Royal with former U.S. President Lyndon Johnson. Generally, these wire photos are 7” x 8.5”. AP transmitted them electronically, and the newspaper printed them on photographic paper. Each has edge tape stains approximately 3/8” in diameter. Otherwise, they show moderate or moderate-to-strong contrast and average vg. Two photos have writing on them, and one has cropping marks. The image in one Rose Bowl photo (not involving Chandler or Dierdorf) is p to f. Many captions are difficult to read because of tape stains. There are three additional photos. One is from a 1969 Villanova-William & Mary game. Two others show Knute Kenneth Rockne, grandson of Notre Dame coach Knute Rockne and a member of the freshman football team at Utah State. These two photos are f-g.

Lot 183. 6 Associated Press Wire Photos, 5 from the 1970 Penn State vs. Missouri Orange Bowl. Penn State won, 10-3. The photos are from a fan of the Nittany Lions; each has Penn State information added, usually in the border. College Hall of Fame running back Lydell Mitchell is in two photos, and College and Pro HoFer Jack Ham is in one. Dennis Onkotz, Charley Pittman and John Ebersole are also pictured. Tigers shown include Tom Shryock, Mel Gray, Lorenzo Brinkley and Butch Davis. Mike Reid, the award-winning college and pro lineman and country music songwriter, is the subject of a 1969 photo. These photos, transmitted to newspapers electronically by AP, are 6” x 8” or larger. Printed on photographic paper, they have tape stains along the edges, generally in the border, show moderate or slightly better contrast and average vg.

Lot 184. Philadelphia Eagles 1972 Yearbook, 5 1970s Team Photos and a Holiday Package. The 96-page yearbook is ex-m. It contains a photo of each Eagle and pro, college and personal information, as well as the roster of each opponent. The team photos, all lithographed and in color, are for 1970 (2, 8.5” x 10.75”, one nm-m and one ex-m); 1974 (2, 11” x 14”, each vg-ex), and 1977 (10.25” x 13.25”) ex. The 1974 and 1977 photos are supplements to the “Sunday Bulletin.” One of the 1950 photos comes in a decorative “Happy Holidays” envelope with an 8.5” x 10.75” print containing artwork similar to that on the envelope and showing game action at Franklin Field. Lot 185. 1955 Pittsburgh Steelers at Philadelphia Eagles Program. The Eagles won this Oct. 30 game, 24-0, at Connie Mack Stadium. The program cover features excellent Lon Keller artwork of a vintage football player with a nose guard around his neck. The 40-page program is ex+ with photos of Eagles, Steelers and Browns – Philadelphia’s next opponent. Among those pictured are Check Bednarik, Eddie Bell, Pete Pihos, Jess Richardson, Norman Willey, Jim Finks, Ernie Stautner, Otto Graham and Len Ford.
