Lot 5. Joe DiMaggio Autographed 14” x 19” Photo from a 1939 Negative. The mint modern print, numbered 21 of 250, shows DiMaggio reading a certificate in which “The Sporting News” cites him as the “perfect player” who batted .381 and served as “a big factor in enabling the Yanks to win their fourth consecutive American League pennant.” He also helped them to win their fourth straight world championship. Kevin Keating authenticated the autograph, which is large and mint 9. The photo is matted and framed to 17.25” x 22.25”.

Lot 6. Robin Roberts (HoF) Signed, Hand-Titled “We Won the Pennant" Print – 1 of Only 36. Before his passing in 2010, Roberts autographed, hand-titled and hand-numbered only 36 (at most) of these dramatic Bill Purdom lithographs. This example is #24/36, one of 36 prints pulled from an edition of 1,500 produced for sale unsigned by the Baseball Hall of Fame. The artwork is similar to another Purdom print produced in an edition of 336 and with the title printed on, “We Won the Pennant October 1, 1950.” Roberts autographed about 200 copies of the second print. The prints are similar, but show significant differences. The print offered here provides a closer view and larger image of Roberts than the other, and an outfielder has been added in front of the Schaefer scoreboard. It shows Roberts looking to his catcher for a sign in the bottom of the ninth inning at Ebbets Field in the final game of the 1950 season. Leading 4-1, Roberts closed down the Dodgers. The victory was his 20th and the Phillies’ 91st, which clinched the N.L. championship. Roberts’ autograph in gold is gem mint 10, and he added “‘We Won the Pennant’ 10/1/50.” Famed sports artist Bill Purdom also signed the 11” 16” print, which has a 9” x 14” image area and is double-matted 16” x 20”. Lot 193. 1934 Rochester Red Wings Photo Vintage-Signed by Johnny Mize and 16 Teammates. Rare pre-rookie autograph of Mize as “John Mize,” who made his major league debut with the St. Louis Cardinals two seasons later. Forty-five seasons after that, Mize was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame. He was a 10-time All-Star in 15 seasons and was the league leader in home runs four times and in RBI three times. Mize and the 16 other Red Wings, who competed in the International League, signed on their image. The Mize autograph is ex-m 6 to nm 7 with a possible traceover on a tiny part of the “J.” The other autographs range from ex 5 to nm 9 and average ex-m 6 to nm 7. These autographs are by Paul Florence, Ad Liska, Ray Harrell, Estel Crabtree, Nub Kleinke, Tony Kaufmann, Johnny Michaels, Leo Toporcer, Dykes Potter, Ival Goodman, Virgil Brown, Jimmy Brown, Ben Borgmann, Bill Lewis and Lewis Whitehead. Of the signers, only Virgil Brown, Borgmann and Whitehead failed to have a turn in the majors. The photo, b&w and 5” x 9.25”, was trimmed from a Texaco point-of-purchase display. It has clipped corners and heavy creases. Kevin Keating authenticated the autographs.

Lot 194. 1955 Rochester Red Wings Team-Signed Baseball Including Dixie Walker. The official International League ball is signed by 22 members of the organization. Allie Clark and George Sisler Jr., the team’s general manager, share the sweet spot. Walker, the team’s manager, is on the north panel with Jack Brandt, Gary Blaylock, Howard Phillips, Jack Faszholz and Vern Benson. The ball is signed also by John McKinson, Tony R Jacobs, Mel Heim, Duke Markell, Joe Cunningham, Al Richter, Cot Deal, Charlie White, Tom Burgess, Bob Rand, Jay Van Noy, Ed Ludwig, Stan Jok and Bob Kelly. The signatures are generally nm-m 8, with a few nm 7 and others mint 9. The ball is off-white and nm-m. Authenticated by Kevin Keating.

Lot 195. Mark Buehrle Signed Print Commemorating His 2007 No-Hitter. On April 18, 2007, Buehrle pitched a no-hitter against the Texas Rangers. Only a walk to Sammy Sosa kept Buehrle from a perfect game – and Buehrle picked him off first base! Consequently, he faced only 17 batters. The 16” x 20” lithograph (13” x 16.25” image area) is rolled and has a tear from the lower left edge that could be matted out. Buehrle’s autograph, authenticated by Kevin Keating, is mint 9.

Lot 196. Rod Carew Autograph on a Certificate of Authenticity. Typed on Rod Carew’s Baseball School letterhead, the CoA certifies that a specific bat he used in the 1980 All-Star Game was signed by him at the 1991 National Baseball Card Show in Anaheim. The letterhead has a chip in the upper left corner. The signature – large, bold and mint 9, was authenticated by Kevin Keating. It is dated Sept. 25, 1991. Carew’s signature on another certificate that is included is a photocopy.

Lot 197. Don Drysdale Autographed 8” x 10”Color Photo. Superb mint 9 to gem mint 10 autograph authenticated by Kevin Keating. A nine-time All-Star, Drysdale was one of the best – and most intimidating – pitchers of the 1960s. He won the Cy Young Award in 1962. He entered the Hall of Fame in 1984. While personalized, this Drysdale autograph is one of the strongest we’ve seen. Drysdale died in 1993. Authenticated by Kevin Keating.

Lot 199. 2 Carl Erskine Autographs. “Oisk” pitched two no-hitters in 12 major league seasons and helped the Dodgers of Brooklyn to win six pennants. He won 20 games in 1953. His autograph is large and an unimprovable 10 on an unlined index card that is matted with a reproduction 1953 Bowman card to 8” x 10”. Erskine signed also a 1989 check; nm-m 8 to mint 9. Lot 202. Monte Irvin Autographed Rawlings Adirondack Big Stick Professional Model Bat. Irvin placed an nm-m 8 signature on the barrel. A star of the Negro Leagues, he was already 30 when he made his major league debut with the New York Giants in 1949. In 1951, he led the N.L. in runs batted in with 121. His induction into the Hall of Fame came in 1973. Kevin Keating authenticated the autograph.
