Lot 511.  Bill White Signed Autobiography – “Uppity: My Untold Story about the Games People Play.” An All-Star first baseman, White also served as president of the National League. He signed the title page of the 2011 stated first edition hardback, nm in an ex-m dust jacket. Willie Mays wrote the foreword to the book. Authenticated by Kevin Keating.

Lot 512.  2 Author-Signed Books Filled with Baseball History and Nostalgia. The books are “Once More Around the Park: A Baseball Reader” by Roger Angell and “Wait Till Next Year: A Memoir” by Doris Kearns Goodwin. Each signed the title page; Goodwin personalized her signature. Both autographs are mint 9 to gem mint 10. The 1991 Angell book, a stated first edition, is ex in a similar dust jacket. Goodwin’s 1997 book and dust jacket are also ex. Authenticated by Kevin Keating.

Lot 513.  “Stengel: His Life and Times” Signed by the Author, Robert W Creamer. From its creation in 1954 until 1984, Creamer served as senior editor for “Sports Illustrated.” His works include what is generally considered the definitive biography of Babe Ruth. He signed a page listing his books in this 1984 biography of Stengel. Creamer also placed his signature on a personalized unlined index card and at the close of a handwritten note in which he thanks a writer for “one of the nicest letters I’ve ever received.” All of the autographs are mint 9 to gem mint 10. Creamer died in 2012. The book and the dust jacket are ex. Authenticated by Kevin Keating.

Lot 514.  Signed Copy of “Fair Game,” the Columns of “Cincinnati Enquirer” Writer Paul Daugherty. The author’s signature is personalized and mint 9 on the title page. The review copy of the book is nm in an ex-m dust jacket. Daugherty covers a broad range of sports topics in these columns, which he wrote from the late 1980s through the late 1990s. Authenticated by Kevin Keating.

Lot 515.  Phil Dixon Signed “The Negro Baseball Leagues: A Photographic History.” Regarded as one of the top authorities on the Negro Leagues, Dixon autographed the title page. His signature is mint 9, and Kevin Keating authenticated it. Dixon wrote and assembled the book with Patrick Hannigan, a sports editor with the “New York Post.” The 1992 book, nm in an ex-m dust jacket, provides more than 330 pages of information and photos.

Lot 516.  2 Author-Signed Books on Sports – by Roy Firestone and Joe Falls. Firestone covers sports on Los Angeles TV. Formerly, he was with ESPN. Falls, who died in 2004, wrote for “The Sporting News” and Detroit newspapers. In 2001, he received the J. G. Taylor Spink Award from the Baseball Hall of Fame. Firestone’s personalized autograph is on the flyleaf of his 1993 book “Up Close.” The signature is gem mint 10, and the book has the dust jacket taped on. Fall signed the second inside page of “Joe Falls: 50 Years of Sports Writing – And I Still Can’t Tell the Difference Between a Slider and a Curve.” The autograph is gem mint 10, and the 1997 book and dust jacket, ex-m. Lot 517.  2 Books – 1 Fiction and 1 Non-Fiction – Written and Autographed by Roger Kahn. The author of “The Boys of Summer,” Kahn signed the flyleaf of “The Seventh Game,” a 1982 stated first printing novel, and “Good Enough to Dream,” a 1985 stated first edition covering his year as an owner and president of the Class A Utica Blue Sox. Both autographs, authenticated by Kevin Keating, are mint 9 to gem mint 10. “The Seventh Game” is ex with a vg+ to ex dust jacket, and “Good Enough to Dream,” nm in an ex-m dust jacket.

Lot 518.  Tony Kornheiser Autographed “Pumping Irony: Working Out the Angst of a Lifetime.” Before becoming co-host of “Pardon the Interruption” on ESPN in 2001, Kornheiser was a columnist for “The Washington Post.” This 1995 stated first edition hardback reprints may of Kornheiser’s “Post” columns, most of which do not deal with sports. He signed the page opposite the title page; the autograph is personalized. In addition, his signature is on a handwritten note. Both signatures are 10s and have been authenticated by Kevin Keating. The book is vg-ex, and the dust jacket is price-clipped.

Lot 519.  “Baseball’s Pivotal Era 1945-51” Signed by the Author, William Marshall. In this 1999 apparent first edition, Marshall examines such topics as the impact of Jackie Robinson on baseball, the efforts to unionize the Pittsburgh Pirates, the success of the Mexican League in attracting U.S. players and how the ensuing lawsuits affected the game, and the role of the commissioner, Happy Chandler. The book and dust jacket are nm. Marshall signed the title page. The autograph is mint 9 and personalized. Authenticated by Kevin Keating.

Lot 520.  Signed Copy – “Jim Murray: The Autobiography of the Pulitzer Prize Winning Sports Columnist.” For his 1989 sports columns for “The Los Angeles Times,” Murray received the 1990 Pulitzer Prize for Commentary. He also earned the Sportswriter of the Year Award a record 14 times and the J. G. Taylor Spink Award from the Baseball Hall of Fame. Murray autographed the title page of his book and dated it Dec. 1997. More interesting is a signed handwritten note. To the collector who requested his autograph, Murray wrote: “Either he (Charley Gehringer) or Lou Gehrig were the best I saw in any infield. Cobb? Great great player. Put him in the outfield with Mays & Ruth. Just don’t go to dinner with him.” Both signatures are gem mint 10. The hardback book is nm, and the dust jacket, ex-m. Murray passed away in August 1998. Lot 521.  “The Official History of the National League” Edited by Charles Segar. Jay Publishing produced this hardcover book in 1951 for the 75th anniversary of the league. Containing approximately 300 illustrations, it is vg+ in a g-vg dust jacket.

Lot 522.  George Will Autographed Copy of His Baseball Book “Men at Work.” Recognized primarily for his political commentary, Will is one of baseball’s premier fans. In this 1990 first edition, he covers elements of baseball by examining four of the game’s best performers – Tony La Russa as manager, Orel Hershiser as pitcher, Tony Gwynn as batter and Cal Ripken, Jr., as representative of the defense. Will’s autograph, which is personalized, is large and bold, gem mint 10, on the title page. It comes with a note from Will’s assistant, who wrote to the person who obtained the autograph, “When I put your book in front of Mr. Will’s nose, he looked at the binding and said, ‘Wow! First edition’.” The book is ex-m, and the dust jacket, ex. Authenticated by Kevin Keating.

Lot 523.  “Washington Senators’ All-Time Greats” Signed by the Author, C. Norman Willis. In his 2003 book, Willis profiles 70 players and officials, from 1871 to 1971. The softcover edition is ex. Willis signed the title with a note to the individual who reviewed his book for “Sports Collectors Digest.” Authenticated by Kevin Keating, the signature is mint 9.
