Lot 687.  Pittsburgh Pirates Ticket Stubs for a July 4, 1921 Doubleheader. Pittsburgh split the two games with St. Louis, winning the first, 5-2, and dropping the second, 6-3. Rogers Hornsby had six hits in the two games, including a two doubles and two triples. He batted .397 for the season. The stubs, one marked “AM” and the other, “PM,” are rain checks neatly separated from the remainder of the ticket. The ticket for the first game is g+ to vg, and the second, vg+.

Lot 692.  Rosey Rowswell “Radio Scorecard” for a Sept. 8, 1938 Pittsburgh at Cincinnati Game. Rowswell broadcast Pirates games from 1936 until his death in 1955. On the scorecard cover, he promotes Mobil gasoline, the sponsor of the scorecard. The 1938 schedule and Pirates 1937 statistics are on the back. Neatly scored and ex.

Lot 693.  1941 Cincinnati at Pittsburgh 5-Cent Scorecard. Neatly scored in pencil for a Pittsburgh victory, this scorecard is trimmed somewhat irregularly and has the Pirates home schedule on the back. Vg-ex as trimmed.

Lot 694.  1941 Program and Ticket for a Pittsburgh Dinner Honoring Paul and Lloyd Waner. The Pittsburgh Sports Writers conducted the event. From 1927 through 1939, the Waner brothers helped to give Pittsburgh one of the strongest outfields in baseball. After the 1940 season, the Pirates released Paul, and in early 1941, they traded Lloyd to Boston. Both players are pictured on the cover of the eight-page program, which is vg+ with some soiling at the top. The ticket also is vg+. A member of the 3,000-hit club with a .333 career batting average, Paul was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1952. A .316 career batter, Lloyd was enshrined in 1967.

Lot 699.  Ticket Stub for the Opening Home Game of the Pittsburgh Pirates 1959 Season. On the way to their second winning season of the 1950s, the Pirates got off to an inauspicious start, losing to Milwaukee, 8-0. Warren Spahn gave up seven hits and pitched a complete game. The Bucs finished the season in fourth place, with a 78-76 record. The stub, including the rain check and part of the next section, is vg+ to ex, without stains or paper loss.

Lot 704.  Set of 4 Phantom Pittsburgh Pirates Tickets for the 1970 World Series. In their inaugural season in Three Rivers Stadium, the Pirates won the N.L. Eastern Division title. The Cincinnati Reds ended their hope for a world championship by sweeping them in the N.L. Championship Series. The phantom tickets, printed without seat numbers, are nm-m.

Lot 705.  Pittsburgh Pirates Primarily 1970s Yearbooks, NLCS Programs and Scorebooks. Twenty-eight publications, including yearbooks for 1975, 1976 (writing on front cover), 1977, 1978 (2) and 1981. These yearbooks average ex. The NLCS programs are for series with Cincinnati in 1975 and 1979. Led by Chuck Tanner, the 1979 Pirates won their last World Series championship. Nm. The regular-season programs are for: 1971 vs. Philadelphia (scored); 1975 (2) vs. New York and Montreal; 1977 vs. Chicago; 1978 (3) vs. Phils, Dodgers and Expos; 1978 (2) vs. Phils; 1980 (3), two different covers, vs. Phils; 1982 vs. Reds; 1983 vs. Cards (scored); 1984 (2) vs. Cubs, one scored; 1985 vs. Reds and 1988 (Bonds cover) vs. Phils. Except for 1972, 1982 and 1983, these programs are almost all nm or better. Also included are a 1984 Pirates calendar and a 1995 “Build-It-Yourself Forbes Field” softcover book.

Lot 728.  11 Cincinnati Reds Publications, 1963-2003 – Yearbooks, NLCS and W.S Programs, Etc. In the 1963 yearbook, Pete Rose makes his first appearance as a member of the Reds’ farm system. Rose made the Reds’ roster and was named the N.L. Rookie of Year. A person’s name is written on the front cover of the yearbook; vg+ with ex pages. The other yearbooks are from 1979, Big Red Machine cover, nm-m; 1980, nm+; 1982, card intact inside, vg-ex; 1988, ex-m; and 1996, Marge Schott and players on the cover, vg+. The program for the 1979 National League Championship Series is ex+, and the scorecard for the 1995 N.L. Division Series, nm. The Reds defeated the Red Sox in the 1975 World Series; the program for the event is vg-ex. Also, a 1986 Reds Express program with Schott, Rose and others on the cover, vg-ex, and a scorecard, ex-m, and two ticket stubs, nm, from 2003, the Reds’ inaugural season at Great American Ball Park.
