Lot 686. 4 Panoramic Photos of the 1909 Pittsburgh-Detroit World Series in The Index. Billed as “Pittsburgh’s Illustrated Weekly,” The Index provides World Series scenes from Pittsburgh and Detroit in its Oct. 18 issue. The front and back covers provide a 15 ¾” x 21 ½” Forbes Field crowd scene. A two-page center spread has panoramic photos of a game at Forbes Field on Oct. 8, a photo of fans leaving Forbes Field on Oct. 9 and a panoramic view of an Oct. 11 game at Detroit’s Bennett Park. The teams split the Pittsburgh games, and the Pirates won the Bennett Park game. This Series featured two greats of the game, Ty Cobb and Honus Wagner. Wagner batted .333, and Cobb, .231. But the top players of the Series were Pittsburgh’s Tommy Leach, who batted .360 and scored eight times, and Babe Adams, who allowed only four earned runs while pitching three complete games. The front and back covers of The Index have tears and chips and grade g. Measuring 15.75” x 21.25”, the two-page spread is vg-ex with stains on the top two edges and “55” written on the right page. The interior is much better than the covers.

Lot 695. Color Photo of the 1950 Pittsburgh Pirates. This 8.75” x 11.25 photo is printed with the players’ names at the bottom. Ralph Kiner was the star of this team, which posted a 57-96 record. Vg.

Lot 698. 1959 Pittsburgh Pirates Composite Team Photo for a Department Store “Booster Club.” The defunct Horne’s store created this 8” x 10” b&w printed composite from spring training photos. It includes Roberto Clemente, Bill Mazeroski, Dick Groat and Don Hoak. Three players pictured would up not making the team, - Curt Raydon, Gene Baker and Bill Hall. The 1959 team had the Pirates only winning record of the 1950s. Ex.
