Lot 558. Gary Gabelich “Blue Flame” Autographed Photo. In the rocket-powered “Blue Flame,” Gabelich set a land speed record of 622.287 miles per hour on Oct. 23, 1970. The record is an average; the vehicle achieved a peak speed of 560 mph. The record stood until 1983. Gabelich died in a motorcycle accident in 1984. His signature as “Gary” is personalized and nm-m 8. A signed “Property of Thomas Edward John” label comes with this signed photo. Kevin Keating authenticated the autographs.

Lot 559. Billy Vukovich Jr. Early 1970s Photo. The 1968 Indianapolis 500 Rookie of the year in 1968, Vukovich raced from 1965-82. His best finish at Indy was second in 1973. His father won the Indianapolis 500 twice. Vukovich also raced midget cars, and he is in the Midget Auto Racing Hall of Fame. Both his father and his son were killed in racing accidents. The photo is 16” x 20” and double-matted and framed to 19” x 23.75”. Vukovich wrote a note on the photo to Tommy John: “God willing another great year in 1980.” The inscription is light (ex 5 to ex-m 6) and unsigned.

Lot 633. Pietro (“Pete”) DePaolo Vintage, Mint Fountain Pen Ink Autograph. DePaolo is best remembered for winning the 1925 Indy 500 when he posted the first ever average speed of more than 100 MPH (with 101.27). He died in 1980 and was elected to the Motorsports Hall of Fame in 1995. His gem mint 10 autograph is personalized and dated “4/6/32” on a page from an autograph book. The personalization could be matted out.
