Golf Autographs and Memorabilia   5 Lots

Lot 291.  John Golf Collection – Autographs, Framed Photos and Campbell and Crosby Memorabilia. Tommy John signed four items in this collection. From the Glen Campbell 1976 Los Angeles Open Tournament, John and his teammates, including Campbell, signed a 14.5” x 15.75” plaque that contains a 4.5” x 6” photo and their original scorecard. The quintet for the pro-am event also included Pat Fitzsimons, the pro; Congressman Dan Rostenkowski and Larry Wheat, associated with the Collegiate All-Star Golf Team Asian Tour. While the photo is faded, the images remain clear. The autographs are nm 7 to nm-m 8. At the same event, John received a Longines’ Wittnauer pocket watch that says “Contestant” on the face and provides the name, location and year of the event. The embossed case commemorates the U.S. bicentennial with the dates 1776 and 1976 and an image of a sailing ship and the Lunar Lander. Nm-m. There also is a 3.5” badge from the 1972 Campbell event and a marker for the 6th tee. John boldly signed the back of a 6” x 26” plaque with a miniature (20.5”) golf club from the 1979 Jackie Gleason Pro-Am. His mint 9 signature extends for 9” and is 3.5” tall. The Bing Crosby National Pro-Am is the source of a 1974 portfolio with Crosby’s image and a 1985 tankard that is 6.25” tall. This group includes three additional display items. Three 5” x 7” photos of the “Amen Corner” at Augusta double-matted and framed to 16.5” x 20.5”. Two photos, each 18” x 24”, show par 3 holes at the Cypress Point Club near Monterey, CA. They are double-matted and framed to 22.5” x 28.5”. One shows the 219-yard 16th hole, and the other, the 127-yard15th hole. (Johnny Mathis made a hole in one on 15.) John also autographed a size medium Antigua jacket from his own Celebrity Golf Classic. The signature in silver on the blue jacket is nm-m; the jacket appears to be unused. Finally, there are two golf club covers from John’s celebrity event. Kevin Keating authenticated the autographs. Four signed “Property of Thomas Edward John” labels come with this collection.
