Cincinnati Reds   7 Lots

Lot 237.  Huge Banner from the 1988 Baseball All-Star Game in Cincinnati. The American League won this game at Riverfront Stadium, 2-1. The canvas banner hung either in the stadium or in the city. It measures 30” x 95”, plus 18” streamers on one side. On a red background, large white letters, accompanied by blue and white stars, simply say “All-Star Game 1988.” Ex-m.
Minimum Bid $75.

Lot 240.  Cincinnati Reds Scarce 1938 and 1940 Newspaper Photo-Biography Series. In 1938, in a series titled “Your Album of the Reds,” the “Cincinnati Post” issued in the sports section a series of portraits and accompanying biographical information designed to be cut out and saved. These items are about 6” x 11.” Twenty of the 25 portraits are contained in a scrapbook: Wally Berger, Joe Cascarella, Dusty Cooke, Harry Craft, Ray Davis, Paul Derringer, Lee Gamble, Ival Goodman, Lee Grissom, Don Lang, Ernie Lombardi, Buck McCormick, Whitey Moore, Billy Myers, Nolen Richardson, Lew Riggs, Gene Schott, Johnny Vander Meer, Bucky Walters and Jim Weaver. In generally, these pieces have been decently trimmed from the newspaper, although the “Your Album” title at the top is missing from nine. In addition, the fan who collected them added the player’s number, almost always on a sock or in a corner. The Lombardi piece is without a number. The source of the unchecklisted 1940 issue is not identified. The year can be determined from the biographical sketches. Varying somewhat in size but generally measuring 6” x 10” to 11”, they may very well be from the “Post.” The 21 subjects are manager Bill McKechnie, Bill Baker, Paul Derringer, Lonny Frey, Jimmy Gleeson, Ival Goodman, Hank Gowdy (no bio), Witt Guise, Johnny Hutchings, Eddie Joost, Bob Logan, Frank McCormick, Lloyd Moore, Monte Pearson, Elmer Riddle, Jimmy Ripple, Jim Turner, Floyd Young and Bucky Walters. These photo-bios are well trimmed with the title present. About half show discoloration in the paper. The scrapbook also has a photo of the 1939 N.L. champion Reds covering two pages and some news clippings from the World Series.
Winning Bid $68.
