Lot 213.  9 Washington Nationals/Senators Yearbook, 1952-60. The team is the Nationals from 1952-56, and the Senators from 1957-60. The 1952 yearbooks is ex-m; 1953, ex+; 1954, vg-ex; 1955, ex-m with a small spine split; 1956, ex; 1957, ex-m; 1958, first edition, vg+ to ex except that all staples have been removed; 1959, vg, and 1960, ex with price information added to the front cover. Harmon Killebrew is introduced in the 1955 issue, and five years later, he is the cover subject. Camilo Pascual and Carlos Paula are also in a major league yearbook for the first time in 1955; Paula was the first black player to appear in a Nationals game. Clark Griffith is honored on the cover and inside in 1956. Jim Kaat is among the rookie hopefuls in the 1960 edition.

Lot 214.  12 Philadelphia Phillies Yearbooks, 1949-60, Including the Rare 1951 Issue. The yearbook from 1951 presents photos of the Whiz Kids in the 1950 World Series. The 60-page publication (including covers), in a 5 x 7.75” format, is ex. The yearbook has a photo of each player, usually in street clothes, and a somewhat lengthy biographical sketch. Richie Ashburn and Curt Simmons are in the Phils’ 1949 yearbook, the Phillies first. Vg-ex. The small-format (5” x 8”) 1950 yearbook is ex. The 1952 yearbook has Smoky Burgess and Robin Roberts, ex+. Here is information on the other yearbooks: 1953, ex; 1954, vg+ to ex; 1955, ex-m; 1956, Ashburn and Roberts cover, ex-m; 1957, vg-ex; 1958, vg-ex; 1959, color photos of 12 players at the front inside, vg+ to ex with minor writing on the front cover; and 1960, vg+ to ex.

Lot 215.  10 Cincinnati Reds Yearbooks, 1947-59. The 1947 yearbook, which has Bucky Walters and Ewell Blackwell on the cover, is rare. Nice vg+ to ex copy with rookie Ted Kluszewski among the players pictured. The Reds chose catcher Ray Lamanno for the cover of the 1949 edition; vg-ex. The Reds did not publish a 1950 edition. The 1951 cover marks the 75th anniversary of the National League; vg-ex. Crosley Field is on the cover of the 1952 issue, nm+. The other issues have the Reds’ (or Red Stockings or Redlegs) baseball mascot on the cover: 1953, nm; 1954, vg-ex; 1955, Kluszewski portrait on the back cover, ex; 1956, revised edition, Frank Robinson debut, ex; 1958, vg-ex, and 1959, opening game edition, ex to ex-m.

Lot 216.  8 Boston Red Sox Yearbooks, 1951-60. Ted Williams and other stars are pictured in the team’s inaugural yearbook in 1951; vg+ to ex. The 1959 yearbook is nm; 1952 and 1958, ex-m; 1960, ex+; 1955, ex; and 1956 and 1957, vg-ex. Harry Agganis is among the new faces in the 1955 issue. (The Red Sox did not publish a yearbook in 1953 or 1954.) Tom Yawkey, Joe Cronin and Mike Higgins are on the cover of the 1956 edition.

Lot 217.  Detroit Tigers Rare 1934 Yearbook and 5 More from 1955 and 1957-60. Led by Mickey Cochrane, the 1934 Tigers were American League champions. The 32-page yearbook (including covers) features green-tint photos and biographical sketches of Hank Greenberg, Charlie Gehringer, Goose Goslin, Schoolboy Rowe, the other players and Cochrane. The spine shows wear without tears; vg+ to ex, ex-m pages. It was five years before the Tigers released another yearbook, which is not included. It was not until 1955 that the next yearbook appeared. Al Kaline is in the 1955 edition, which has Harvey Kuenn on the back cover. Ex-m+. Jim Bunning’s first appearance in a major league yearbook came in 1957; vg-ex. The other yearbooks are from 1958, Tigers in the Hall of Fame on the cover, ex-m; 1959, ex+ with small spine splits at the top and bottom; and 1960, nm.

Lot 218.  9 Chicago White Sox Yearbooks, 1952-60. The 1960 yearbook is nm+ (but with the staples removed); 1956 and 1958, nm; 1954 and 1955, ex-m; 1953 and 1959, ex; 1952, vg-ex, and 1957, vg. Among the stars in these yearbooks are Nellie Fox, Minnie Minoso, Larry Doby and George Kell. Luis Aparicio turns up for the first time in 1956, and so does Norm Cash. The 1959 White Sox were American League champions.

Lot 219.  6 American Association Yearbooks with MLB Stars – 1936 and 1947-51. Over the years, the titles of these yearbooks vary somewhat. Pictured as a member of the Minneapolis Millers, Willie Mays is the star of the 120-page 1951 yearbook, which is titled “50 Golden Years and Who’s Who in the American Association.” The publication contains a special section recounting this history of the American Association. Vg cover, ex interior. Mays is pictured on page 77. Other recognizable names include Steve Bilko, Harry Walker, Andy Carey, Bob Cerv, Joe Page, Ray Dandridge, Hoyt Wilhelm, Don Hoak and Clem Labine. The 1936 issue, 102 pages and vg-ex with minor writing inside the front cover, is named “The American Association on Parade.” Rudy York is among the players pictured. The other issues have the title of “Who’s Who in the American Association.” The 1947 issue is vg+ (center folio loose), 1948 ex, 1949 vg+ to ex and 1950 ex. Among the stars shown are Hank Bauer and Al Dark in 1947; Roy Campanella (the first black player in these issues), Ralph Houk and Al Rosen in 1948; Lou Burdette, Jimmy Piersall and Clem Labine in 1949; and Whitey Ford, Billy Martin, Hoyt Wilhelm and Ray Dandridge in 1950.
