Lot 288. Leo Durocher 1951 Original New York “Daily News” Photo. At first glance, it looks as if officials might be kicking Durocher out of a ball park for bad behavior on the field. Instead, described by the newspaper’s caption as “exhausted” and “bedraggled,” he is being helped to the New York Giants’ clubhouse by a Polo Grounds attendant and pitcher Jim Hearn. Trailing Brooklyn by 13 ½ games on Aug. 12, the Giants rallied to tie the Bums at the close of a regular season. This photo shows Durocher on Oct. 3, 1951, after the Giants won Game 3 of a three-game playoff series with Brooklyn – and the pennant – on Bobby Thomson’s “Shot Heard ‘Round the World.” The 10” x 13” b&w photo is matted and framed to 15.5” x 19.5”. The photo is mounted on a scrapbook page, and a clipping from the “Daily News” is on the back of the page. Ex+.
Minimum Bid $50.
