Lot 316.  1940s Pittsburgh Pirates Full-Sized White-on-Purple Pennant. Unusual design with a generic pitcher, apparently with Forbes Field in the background, in the place typically occupied by the Pirate mascot. Ex.

Lot 317.  4 Pittsburgh Pirates Pennants, All with the Same Mascot – One Full-Sized and Three Mini. Pirates pennant producers employed this mascot from the late 1940s through the early 1960s. The full-sized pennant has a multi-colored mascot and white letters on a purple field. Ex-m to nm. One mini-pennant is 8” across, and the two others, 11.5”. The smallest pennant, gold-on-black, is ex. Both larger mini-pennants present multi-colored mascots, one on a black field, ex+, and one on a red field, vg.

Lot 318.  1950s Pittsburgh Pirates Full-Sized Gold-on-Black Pennant. This 29” pennant is ex to ex-m. It features the head of a pirate with a dagger between his teeth and “Pittsburgh Pirates” with a single “P” serving as the first letter of both words.

Lot 321.  1960s Pittsburgh Pirates Full-Sized Pennant with the Mascot Inside Forbes Field. In this colorful pennant, the mascot is black, white, green, pink and brown, and the ballpark is black, white, green and pink. “Pittsburgh Pirates” is in white on a black field. Nm.

Lot 323.  1960s-70s Pittsburgh Pirates White-on-Black Full-Sized Pennant. This design, which was used for a 1971 Pirates Worlds Champs pennant, has a left-handed mascot batter at the left. Ex-m+.

Lot 324.  1960s-70s Pittsburgh Pirates Black-on-Gold Full-Sized Pennant. The Pirates used this same design for a Worlds Champs pennant in 1971. A left-handed mascot batter is at the left. Vg+ to ex.

Lot 325.  1966 Pittsburgh Pirates Full-Sized Scroll Pennant with Clemente, Stargell, Maz, Etc. A multi-colored ship, white letters and a white scroll decorate the red field of this uncommon pennant. Led by Harry Walker, the 1966 Pirates finished third in the National League, only three games behind Los Angeles and 1.5 behind San Francisco. Roberto Clemente, Willie Stargell and Matty Alou all batted above .300. Their surnames are on the scroll, along with those of Bill Mazeroski, Steve Blass, ElRoy Face, Vernon Law, Bob Veale, Gene Alley and Donn Clendenon. The pennant is vg-ex and free of pin holes.

Lot 331.  1959 Pittsburgh Pirates Schedule and Diagram of Forbes Field. The schedule and ball park layout are part of a 17.5” x 22.5” poster promoting Martinelli’s Restaurant and Hotel near Pittsburgh. The red and white poster has two spots of white paint toward the upper right; otherwise, it is ex.

Lot 332.  Rare 1960 (Pittsburgh Pirates) “Beat ‘em, Bucs” Canada Dry Promotional Paper Banner. “Beat ‘em, Bucs” was the motto of the world champion Pirates in 1960. This 13.5” x 19.75” red, green and white banner offers six seven-ounce bottles of Canada Dry ginger ale or club soda for 33 cents. It has a ½” tear toward the tip and otherwise is vg. First example we’ve seen!

Lot 333.  Rare Strip of 3 Mega-Tickets for the Inaugural Baseball Game at Pittsburgh’s PNC Park. The Pittsburgh Pirates played their first official game at PNC Park on April 9, 2001 against the Cincinnati Reds. The 8.5” x 11” strip of tickets is nm. Because they are for the club level, the tickets lack a seat designation.

Lot 335.  Bruce Stark Images of Robinson, Reese, Durocher and Ebbets Field – and a Clock. As a staff artist for New York’s “Daily News,” Stark’s specialty was caricatures and cartoons, but he created realistic artwork as well. Offered here is 17” x 19” artwork that serves as a backdrop for a modern battery operated clock. Stark provides impressive images of Jackie Robinson, Pee Wee Reese and Leo Durocher. The white of their uniforms shows some even yellowing. This display may have been produced using a decoupage process. It is attractive and ex-m. The clock is not working but could easily be replaced.

Lot 336.  1911 “Home Run Bill” Baseball Sheet Music. Jerome Shay wrote the music and Alfred Bryan, the lyrics, to this humorous and entertaining celebration of the National Game. The subject of the music is “Bill Johnson” who was “a swatter on a Bush League nine, Way down South in Caroline.” The cover artwork is by one of Starmer brothers, William or Frederick, who are widely recognized among sheet music collectors. The six pages of sheet music have been taped along the spine on the inside. The front cover displays a music store stamp, a few small edge tears and two places where pencil writing has been erased. Vg-ex.
